Thailand family vacations

Thailand is possibly the most family-friendly destination you can find – it has some of the best hotels that cater for children, but also is a destination where you can easily combine an element of adventure with some downtime on the Thai beaches. For those wanting to add an element of culture, we will create a luxury customized family vacation totally around your children. In Bangkok, they can experience street markets, possibly cycle through Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park, take a long-tail boat down remote canals to a tourist-free floating market, jump in a tuk-tuk and explore the hidden side to the city or try your hand at Thai cookery. Moving north, you can uncover Thailand’s adventure playground where you can trek through the hills to meet local hill tribes, paddle down rivers on bamboo rafts, spend a day with an elephant or visit amazing Buddhist temples. For the older children and teenagers who want to show off their GoPro footage, we can arrange zip-wires and white-water rafting. Moving south, you can visit the Khao Sok National Park – think gentle treks into the jungle, boat trips and meeting their local elephants. Naturally after all this fun and excitement, your children might want some time on the beach – and we have a great selection of hotels in Koh Samui, Krabi, Koh Lanta and Phuket that are ideal for families. Here are some suggestions that will delight them… and you. Or, alternatively, speak to us for other ideas or to start planning your customized family vacation to Thailand.

Thailand for teenagers

For active teenagers who want to burn some adrenaline, we have just the answer. First head north to Chiang Mai, Thailand’s adventure capital, where all the family can enjoy a dazzling array of experiential activities including bamboo rafting, elephant treks and trekking to remote hill tribes for a day. Think local markets, cycling past ancient temples, cooking classes and night bazaars - all the activity a teenager could wish for. Finish in Koh Samui. Explore remote inlets by kayak or maybe try zip-lining. Of course, after all this entertainment they might just like to put their feet up with a big grin on their faces!

Angkor Wat and Thailand

If you are looking for the ultimate twin-center between an element of culture and time on the beach then Cambodia and Thailand is the solution. Begin by flying to Siem Reap, home to the vast temple complex of Angkor Wat. ‘Tomb Raider’ is essential pre-vacation film viewing to get the children into the spirit of things. We will use specialist guides to ensure Angkor Wat comes alive for the family – but Cambodia offers a great deal more – think of private boat trips on Tonle Sap lake, rural markets, cycling or even helicopter experiences. Fly down to Koh Lanta for a relaxing week on the beach in Thailand.

Bhutan and Thailand For Families

With direct flights from Bangkok to Bhutan, this combination works perfectly from October to April – spend five days in Bhutan combining Paro and Punakha – trek to the amazing Tigers Nest Monastery, free-wheel cycle down through the Haa Valley, meet local Buddhist Monks (some will be the same age as your children!), try your hand at archery and simple walks through the countryside seeing local life that has been unchanged in centuries. Fly back to Thailand and straight down to the beach for a week.

Family adventure to Thailand

This soft adventure itinerary combines the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, jungle trekking, meeting elephants and a stay on the pristine beaches of Koh Lanta. In Bangkok we will arrange a guide who will take the family through the markets on a street-food tour and taking a traditional klong to a tourist-free floating market. Cycle the backstreets to remote Buddhist temples. Hit Khao Sok and spend your days under canvas – canoe through the jungle, trek through rainforests and meet the local elephants. Finish on the beach in Koh Lanta where all the family can relax and get in some well-deserved pool time!

Elephant Hills Tented Camp, Koh Sok National Park

You might just be thinking – where can I add an element of adventure between a city stop in Bangkok and the beaches of either Koh Samui or Phuket? Well, the answer is Elephant Hills. It has two remote tented camps from which you can explore Koh Sok National Park. The experience for children is very varied – from elephant interactions, canoeing along the Sok River, jungle walks and visits to local villages. It offers a couple of days of soft adventure and is perfect for families who want to see a little more of Thailand away from the beaches and don’t mind a few nights in slightly more rustic accommodation.

Soneva Kiri, Koh Kood

Arguably the most exclusive beach hotel in Asia, Soneva Kiri is tucked away on the remote island of Koh Kood. With its luxury barefoot style, gorgeous pool villas and amazing white sandy beach – we think Soneva Kiri is almost the perfect family-friendly resort. Throw in a world-class kids club providing innovative programs both in their eco-den and off-site. Your children will simply not want to leave. Kiri can be easily combined with a dash of adventure in Northern Thailand, Bangkok or Cambodia for the ultimate luxury family adventure.

Four Seasons Koh Samui

We all know Four Seasons simply get it right when you take the family – from the way the design villas and suites that perfectly accommodate families of any size, to their kids club, child amenities, food and even mini-massages! Ideal from February to September – it makes for a great summer vacation destination – throw in an amazing beach, pools, tennis, watersports and boat trips and you have a really rather fantastic family friendly hotel.

Pimalai, Koh Lanta

The Pimalai is an old Scott Dunn favorite and is located in Koh Lanta, an island to the south of Krabi and luckily not blighted by over-development such as you find in Phuket. We think it has one of the best beaches in Thailand and they have a range of two-bedroom suites and villas as well as interconnecting standard Deluxe Rooms. They offer a range of fun activities from kayaking, sailing, windsurfing as well as bicycles you can borrow to explore the island. There are two large infinity pools and two tennis courts making it an ideal hotel for families.

Santiburi, Koh Samui

Located on Koh Samui on Mae Nam Beach, Santiburi is a great family option on the island. We really rather like the concept of having nannies strategically positioned on the beach to look after your children as you soak up some well-deserved sun. There are a range of one and two-bedroom suites which offer the perfect space for families and your children will love the 50m swimming pool, or children’s pool for younger guests. Add to that a flood-lit tennis courts and a movie library and you find a resort that is simply great for children of all ages.

Trisara, Phuket

If you are after a luxury boutique hotel in Phuket, with amazing pool villas that are ideal for families and a philosophy of ultimate indulgence, then look no further than Trisara. Trisara has a superb kids club for children between 4 and 16 and a range of two-bedroom villas with private gardens, private pools and wonderful views over the ocean. For larger families, they have a range of staffed private residences with up to five bedrooms and large 20m pools. It is certainly the swishiest option in Phuket!

Ultimate luxury family holiday

If you want to really impress the children, then we have an itinerary that really doesn’t hold back. Begin in Bangkok, using our specialist guides to make the city come alive. Fly to Chiang Mai for a stay at Dhara Devi from where the children can have their own elephant for a day. Spend your days seeing ancient temples, cycling through villages or walking to remote hill tribes. Finally end on the beach in Koh Kood at Soneva Kiri – quite simply the best beach hotel in Thailand.
