Places to Visit in Kazakhstan
There are three main regions to visit, Almaty Province, Northern Kazakhstan and the southern desert. Almaty Province is the jewel in the crown of this country and a result the most visited area.
Almaty itself is charming, there are dramatic mountains with snow-capped peaks surrounding the city, when you are staying we suggest exploring the highlights of the city which include the central Mosque, Panfilov Park and the Memorial of Glory and Eternal flame. You can then head into the countryside to explore the truly immense and breath-taking landscape with its limitless horizons. Northern Kazakhstan borders onto Russian Siberia and is home to Astana which is an innovative and striking city with a diverse skyline and cutting edge architecture. Just outside the city Korgalzhyn Steppe is teeming with wildlife, notably the fabulous flamingo and worth visiting, especially if you are a keen photographer. The southern desert of Kazakhstan is a total contrast, ticking off visiting the Baikonur Cosmodrome where the first ever person ascended into space should be added to the must-see places while on a trip here. The city of Shymkent was home to silk road caravan route paints a detailed picture of the history dating back to the 12th century.
