Niigata, Central Honshu Mountains, Japan
Hop onboard 1st class jetfoil boat to Sado Island, where our private car will bring you across the Sado Gold Mine, the Ogi town for a tub boat experience, followed by a Taiko drum lesson.
Lying off the coast of Niigata is the remote Sado Island. It was once a flourishing gold mine between 1601 and 1974, here you will learn about the history of the gold mine and its prominent role during the Edo era.
Following that, we head into the Ogi town for a unique opportunity to experience the traditional tub boat, as made famous in the 2001 coming-of-age film Spirited Away.
Afterwards, you will get a first-hand lesson on how to play the taiko drum. Taiko is often incorporated in Japanese theatres, kabuki plays and noh theatres. The classical music tradition is a unique way to gain insights into the Japanese folk culture and musical tradition in an interactive, fun-filled way.
