Allstar Food Tour (Yurakucho)
This 3-hour food tour starts in Yurakucho, a district off the main tourist track, but alive with retro izakaya (food bars) and atmospheric old restaurants loved by the locals. The hidden locations and language issues can make visiting these venues difficult on your own, but your English-speaking guide will lead you on a five-stop tour of traditional izakaya. Izakaya are a key part of Japan’s culinary culture and after work socialising but can often feel hard for tourists to get to. The evening begins in Gado Shita, a vibrant restaurant district, with a charming old neighbourhood vibe, built under the arches next to Yurakucho Station. Also known as ‘salaryman heaven,’ the area is home to the authentic izakaya bars and yakitori snacks (meat skewers) frequented by Tokyo businessmen at the end of the working day. Enjoy two food stops in Yurakucho before progressing to the upmarket and glamorous restaurants of Ginza, with the chance to try regional dishes from the Miyazaki Prefecture, seasonal dishes, and dessert. The tour ends in the rustic and authentic area of Shimbashi. This is a superb opportunity to try izakaya favourites while rubbing shoulders with the locals.
