Lifetime Private Retreats is the name given to five luxurious, beautiful and distinct homes set in one hundred acres of rugged coastline on one of the world's great wild island hideaways, Kangaroo Island, off the coast of South Australia.
Only a 30-minute flight from Adelaide, Sky House, Cliff House, The Settlers Homestead, Beach Retreat and Sheoaks are fabulous Mediterranean style villas in their own private estates, set up on the edge of dramatic cliffs overlooking wide expanses of Kangaroo Island's empty beaches. Each house is different but have the commonalities of fantastic interior design and astonishing attention to detail making this is a complete hideaway in an island paradise.
Spend the days exploring untouched coastline, wildlife spotting or even taking a scenic helicopter flight over the stunning scenery and returning to find a private dinner prepared by your personal chef with delicious local produce. Dining here is a totally new experience due to the personalised service at the villas, with meals possible in a huge variety of outdoor locations, making every meal a memorable one.
This is a truly unique collection of properties where you can cut yourself off from your busy lives and relax in unrivalled surroundings.
Lifetime Private Retreats offers the island's most luxurious accommodation in the form of five different guesthouses. The three-bedroom Cliff House boasts a Jacuzzi on its terrace and is modern in style. Differently the three-bedroom Settlers Homestead is built from sandstone, timber and corrugated iron with a fabulous beach bush setting. Sheoaks features four bedrooms, accommodating up to seven guests and featuring incredible views onto the beach. Beach Retreat is a romantic one-bedroom retreat with spectacular views across Snelling's beach. Finally the one-bedroom Sky House which is at the highest point in the resort and is Moroccan in design. All houses are wonderfully private and fully staffed.
Children are welcome at Lifetime Private Retreats and both Stone House and Cliff House have three bedrooms which make them a good size for families. Children who like the great outdoors will love the natural surroundings and adventures in store. Babysitting can be arranged should you wish to have a romantic al fresco dinner at one of the island's many idyllic dining spots.
Meals here are fully bespoke and you can eat where and when you like - each Villa has wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces for dining but the secluded lunchtime beach picnics and romantic private barbeques are also not to be missed.
Or, if you prefer to self-cater, the villas can also be booked on a house only basis.
The resort can organise scenic helicopter flights, wildlife touring and diving at an additional charge.

For ultimate seclusion and exclusivity, this offers sophisticated accommodation with magical dining options, including their fig tree dining. Here you dine outside within the branches of the tree, it's an extremely special experience. It's important to remember that the restaurants are not always open so guests might need to plan dinner and the owners can arrange catering for guests.

Kangaroo Island is almost like the land that time forgot… with its lack of development and modernity its real charm. The majority of the island is a huge nature reserve, giving it its name as there are literally kangaroos (and koalas, possums, wombats..) everywhere! Lifetime Private Retreats is a collection of 3 beautifully designed houses set on lovely Snelling Beach on the north side of the island, so it is quite sheltered and lovely for swimming in the summer. When I arrived, I was taken up to Sky House - located on the top of the cliff, with incredible views stretching out to sea and back over the farm land. This is a house just for two, really romantic as it is so private, enormous bathroom with views out to sea and even a huge telescope for some star gazing at night. Like with the other houses - which are larger and designed more for families - it was really kitted out with everything you want, and due to a questionnaire I filled in before I arrived, there was even all the music I liked! You can either get the chef to come and cook for you, or head down to either the ‘woolshed’ or choose anywhere outside to have a delicious meal in total privacy. Whilst here I enjoyed wildlife tours, walking along the deserted beaches and really getting away from it all in this pristine natural retreat.
