Luxury honeymoons in India

With its majestic palaces converted into glamorous and indulgent luxury hotels, jungles home to the Royal Bengal Tiger and a history and culture that tell a thousand colourful stories, India is a fabulous destination to begin married life. So what are the options when considering a honeymoon to India?

India luxury honeymoons

Dip into a little culture before heading off to the turquoise lagoons of the Maldives, or the palm-fringed beaches of Sri Lanka for the ultimate twin-centre honeymoon. The possibilities are endless, and we will tailor an exclusive itinerary totally around you. It goes without saying we will provide the best private transfers, personal guides and superb hotels to ensure the overall experience is absolutely unforgettable.

Rajasthan – the land of the Maharajas

It’s your honeymoon after all, so the best advice is not to rush around too much as after all you can easily return for a future wedding anniversary! We suggest blending a few of the amazing sights with an element of seeing India’s colourful rural life in all its authenticity; we know that you might not be after an intensive tour! You will love those magical experiences, possibly where it is just the two of you. Maybe take a walk out through the tribal villages near Jaipur, have tea in a local Haveli and take a private boat out on the lake in Udaipur. Walk with elephants at dusk and gingerly amble through the countryside, G&T in hand.

You might want to head to the Taj Mahal, built by the Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century for his late wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Dip into the nearby jungles of Ramathambore National Park to catch sight of the Royal Bengal Tiger before moving to the timeless forts and palaces of Rajasthan. Finish in Udaipur in the Lake Palace Hotel, one of the most romantic hotels in the world. The best time to visit Rajasthan is from October to April.

Tiger Safaris and Beach

For so long, honeymooners have travelled to Africa for a safari before heading to Mozambique, the Seychelles or Mauritius for a spot of beach time to finish. Over the past few years, the African lodge owners have been consulted on recreating the same experience to India. &Beyond and Taj came together and developed some superb African style lodges in Madhya Pradesh in Central India meaning this amazing wildlife experience was taken to the next, luxurious level. These parks are more remote, and you will not only hopefully see tiger, but expect to see leopard, Indian gaur (buffalo), countless deer, birdlife, wild dog, crocodile, bear and fantastic landscapes. Its not surprising the inspiration for Kipling’s Jungle Book came from these parks. Combine with the Maldives for the ultimate beach finale (far better than Mauritius in our opinion!). The parks open from mid October and close at the end of June, although it gets really hot towards the end of the season – although this is when wildlife sightings are at their best.

Kerala and the Maldives

India’s southern state of Kerala is only an hour’s flight from the amazing tropical islands of the Maldives with its many luxury resorts. Think Kerala, and think cruising down palm-fringed backwaters on a private houseboat eating glorious coconut based fish curries, before walking through verdant tea plantations in the Western Ghats and exploring bustling markets of Cochin. The experience you get is remarkably diverse, and for those who are a little unsure of visiting India, Kerala is the perfect first-time destination to opt for. With a range of charming boutique hotels, and shorter drives between each of the main highlights, you can easily get your adventure fix before flying off to the Maldives for some R&R.

Off the Beaten Track

For old India hands who want to show off the hidden side to India to their other half, then we are the experts in taking you far off the beaten track, in style. Maybe consider heading up to the Himalayas and setting off on a walk through remote villages, staying in private luxury village houses and having the destination all to yourselves? Maybe head off to the more remote corners of Rajasthan and stay at the Serai in Jaisalmer before heading off riding through the Rajasthani countryside at Mihir Garh, a leopard safari near Ranakpur at Jawai and putting your feet up at the Lake Palace in Udaipur? Delve into our secret remote bolt-holes such as Rajakkad in Tamil Nadu, to Barefoot at Havelock in the Andamans Islands or snuggle up at your own tea estate at Glenburn in Sikkim. Ideas are just ideas, and the best thing to do if you want something a little out of the ordinary is to call us up and we will create a bespoke luxury honeymoon totally around you. At Scott Dunn, our India specialists live and breathe the country, and know all those little gems that you might not know exist, and promise your honeymoon experience will be second to none.
