Short of Time? Head to Japan

In a day and age where time is money, finding extended periods of time to visit far flung places is becoming more and more challenging.

However, we have some good news for you – a 7-night trip to Asia really is possible. For our USA based guests, it is rare that we can recommend a great trip to Asia for this short length of time, but Japan is a great option. Here is Asia Travel Expert, Louise’s perfect itinerary for those that want to make the most of there week long holiday.

There are a few factors that make Japan a viable option, such as its proximity to the USA. Japan is the first Asian country you reach when crossing the Pacific. From the west coast, Tokyo is a 9-10 hour flight (closer than London!) so there is a lot less flying time involved in comparison to other Asian destinations.

When traveling with Scott Dunn, we ensure that all the finer details are planned in advance, so no time is wasted once you are there. For example, at train stations we include assistants who take you right to your train carriage door – so no extra time is needed to navigate the labyrinth-like stations.

With everything being so efficient in Japan, journeys between destinations are hassle free and quick, with the bullet trains travelling at 200 MPH. There are rarely delays, so you don’t waste whole days travelling from one place to another.

In seven nights, you can experience a great mix of old and new, to gain an insight into this fascinating, culturally rich country.

Your first stop is Tokyo – a vibrant and mesmerizing city, known for its neon signs, modern skyscrapers, great shopping and diverse foodie scene. Explore with a private guide to learn about this city from a local. Visit ancient shrines and gardens, hit the shops in Ginza and Omotesando, sample incredible sushi or visit one of the many art museums. There is something for everyone, so we can ensure that your time is well-spent in the city.

Next, as a contrast head to the ancient capital of Kyoto which is only a 2-hour train ride away. Here you will find beautiful old buildings, narrow winding streets and plenty of iconic temples, such as Tenryu-ji and Kinkakuji. You can visit food markets to sample local delicacies, take a stroll around the bamboo forest and visit the Geisha district of Gion. Kyoto is also a wonderful place to experience a traditional tea ceremony, or to learn more about zen mediation.

For an authentic experience, end with a night in Hakone in a traditional Japanese Inn, known as a ryokan. In my opinion, this is a must when in Japan. Experience the fabulous Japanese hospitality, relax in a hot spring water bath and end your Japanese adventure with a lavish Kaiseki dinner.

As you can see, in a well-planned 7-night itinerary you can really pack in a lot and see the core areas for a first-timers trip to Japan, still with time to relax! We work with some fabulous guides, so we can ensure you make the most of each day away.
