Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Botswana’s winter is May to October when the weather is hot during the day (not stiflingly hot) and cold at night. Botswana's summer months (November to April) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March.

There are two very distinct seasons at the Victoria Falls, the wet/flood season and the dry season. These seasons do not reflect the quantity of rain, rather reflect the volume of flow of the Zambezi River. From around March through to July the river surges in size as the rainfall in Angola and Zambia from months before swells the current. The falls are at their most dramatic at this time of year with huge columns of spray. The nights are cold and the days warm at this time of year. From around September to January the water levels drop, the falls are more accessible and views are clearer as the flow can drop in volume by 90%. It is worth noting that the rains come from late October through to February, this combined with high heat, 40 celcius or more, in October and November, causes high levels of humidity.

Itinerary

This honeymoon itinerary offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the lush, emerald green Okavango Delta in two beautiful camps before heading up to Victoria Falls to experience the force of nature along with the tranquil peace of the Zambezi River.

  1. Fly to Maun

  2. Days 1-4: Shinde Concession

Your adventure starts in the verdant surroundings of the Okavango Delta. Your light aircraft flight takes you over swathes of lush vegetation bisected by clear deep-water channels, characteristic of this beautiful corner of Botswana. You will spend the next three nights here trying out a myriad of activities, including exploring the bush - either on exciting walks led by your guide, day and night game drives, or to slow the pace a little, a gentle drift down the deep-water channels of the Delta. In the evenings, as the sun sets, your guide will park by the edge of a lagoon or channel and dispense sundowner drinks as the light fades from the sky and the night animals begin to reanimate.

    Accommodation: Shinde (3 nights)

  3. Days 4-7: Nxabega Concession

Today your honeymoon continues as you take a light aircraft to a different area of the Delta. You’ll spend the next three nights exploring the islands of the Delta in a true water paradise. Day-to-day your time will be spent delving into the reaches of the Delta on a game drive where you could see some magnificent game sightings and some breathtaking scenery to go with it. You also have the opportunity to head out on a mokoro again, this is a great way to get up close and personal with the smaller animals that live within the reeds and water channels. We recommend you spend one night here sleeping out under the stars – it’s a truly magical experience when the stars come out and the reed frogs begin their night time harmony.

    Accommodation: Kanana Camp (3 nights)

  4. Days 7-9: Victoria Falls - the Zim side

Today you will leave the Delta and continue your honeymoon up to the mighty Victoria Falls. Staying for two nights in a honeymoon suite along a quiet stretch of the Zambezi River will allow plenty of time to relax before your holiday comes to an end. Your last couple of days can be as active or relaxing as you like; at the more active end you could find yourself rafting down the Zambezi, flying through the canopy on a zipline, or even taking a helicopter flight over the Falls. Included in your stay is two game activities a day, ranging from game drives in Zambezi National Park to a sunset boat cruise along the river, which we think is one of the most romantic ends to a day in Africa.

Accommodation: Victoria Falls River Lodge (2 nights)

  5. Fly home from Victoria Falls Airport

Experiences

  • Game drives in the Okavango

One of the best ways to see the big game of Botswana's Okavango Delta is on a game drive with a knowledgeable guide. Explore in open-sided vehicles to maximise your viewing opportunities, this is a truly wildlife rich environment.

  • Microlight flight over the Victoria Falls

Experience the majestic Victoria Falls in a truly unique way from the open cockpit of a piloted microlight where you can hear the roar of water right below your feet and see the falls from a whole new perspective.

  • Victoria Falls National Park

Take in the falls in all their glory with a walk through the Victoria Falls National Park. It is recommended to view the falls from the Zimbabwean side as you can enjoy extensive views of the falls as you wind your way along the pathways.
