One of the most amazing and important pieces of architecture in Bhutan is Taktsang Goemba, more commonly known as Tiger’s Nest. Hugging the side of a rocky cliff above the Paro Valley, this is a wonder to behold.

Legend has it that it was here where Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) landed on the back of a flying tigress, bringing Buddhism to Bhutan from Tibet.

We make an early start to avoid the hot sun for the two-hour climb to the Tiger’s Nest viewpoint. Climb up to the monastery, passing a waterfall and entering through the main gates which are decorated with murals.

Please note, this is a strenuous trek and we recommend you wear good walking shoes and cool, light clothing suitable for walking. Tiger's Nest sits at  10,000ft above sea level and it is vital you spend a few days at the start of your journey through Bhutan acclimatising to avoid altitude sickness.
