Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters.

Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. It is the hottest season, with temperatures ranging from 32 degrees C to 45 degree C, so not ideal for travel, although early April is a good time to get cheaper rates if you dont mind the temperature in the high 30s. In western Rajasthan the temperature may reach at high as 45 degrees C, particularly in May and June so we'd suggest avoiding Jaisalmer and the Thar Desert at this time.

The second season - technically the "Monsoon" (although in reality Rajasthan never receives much rainfall) extends from July to September. The temperature drops slightly, and humidity increases. 90% of the rain Rajasthan can expect occurs during this period. Lakes and rivers will be higher from mountain run-off and flowers and grasses come to life, bringing added colour to the landscape.

The Post-monsoon period is from October to November. The average maximum temperature is 33 degree C to 38 degree C, and the minimum is between 18 degree C and 20 degree C. The official "season" for hotels in Rajasthan starts in October. It’s a great time to travel - warm and sunny during and perfect for exploring and relaxing.

The fourth season is "winter", and runs from December to March. With day time temperatures still in the high 20's during the day this a very popular time to travel. Hotels are at the their busiest over the Christmas and new year period. Be aware though that December and January can have very cool mornings and evening and we suggest taking some warm clothing. Whilst temperatures in the desert areas are always hot in the daytime, they become some of the coolest areas of the state once the sun goes down. It’s also fairly standard to expect some fog in the major cities of Northern Rajstasthan and Delhi in December and January.

Itinerary

Day 1-3

Delhi

The first stop on your family adventure is the energetic, colourful city of Delhi. After a long flight, you’ll be whisked to the stunning Imperial, a spacious hotel situated in the heart of the city and your family’s home for the next 2 nights. We’ve handpicked some of our favourite experiences to inject your stay with endless fun on every corner you turn.

Fuel up the whole gang with a delicious breakfast in the hotel before setting off on a stimulating tour of Old and New Delhi with your expert guide. Step off the tourist trail and unlock the hidden secrets of some of the city’s most famous sites. Starting in Old Delhi, whizz through the winding streets of Chandni Chowk on a cycle-rickshaw, sampling fragrant spices and rambling around the lively bazaars. Marvel at the Red Fort and be stunned by the magnificent Jama Masjid Mosque before moving into New Delhi. Listen closely as your guide tells the enchanting stories of the legendary culture of each of its buildings and brings its enthralling history to life. After a busy day of exploring the city, splash around in the hotel’s pool, freshen up for the evening and head down to one of the many restaurants on offer for a delicious dinner.

Accommodation: The Imperial ( 2 nights )
Day 3-4

Agra

Leaving the bubbling city of Delhi behind you, it’s time to hop on the Shatabdi Express for a two-hour train ride south to spellbinding city of Agra, home to the celebrated Taj Mahal. Travelling by train is integral to any trip in India. Energetic and full of life, it’s an exhilarating experience in itself and an enjoyable way for any family to voyage around the country.

Situated only a stone’s throw away from the symbolic mosque, your family will stay at the idyllic Oberoi Amarvilas for the night. With impressive gardens and an inviting swimming pool, Oberoi Amarvilas is a fun-filling place for the whole family to enjoy in between exploring the surrounding area.  Spend the afternoon embracing the lesser-known attractions of this Mughal empire. Mooch along the streets and you’ll stumble across the noble fort, a scattering of beguiling tombs and chambers, and the hustle and bustle of never-ending ‘chowks’. The history is hypnotising, and your family’s expert guide will be on hand to bring it all to life. In the evening, splash around in the pool, relax on the terrace and indulge in the hotel’s scrumptious cuisine before getting a good night’s rest in preparation for tomorrow’s early start.

Accommodation: The Oberoi Amarvilas ( 1 night )
Day 4-6

Ranthambore National Park

To ensure you all get a good glimpse of what is widely considered to be the most picturesque building in the world, we will arrange a sunrise tour of the Taj Mahal before your family quest continues through Rajasthan. Sit back in awe and get your cameras ready for those epic family photos as the sun begins to rise behind the Taj’s magnificent complex.

Ranthambhore National Park is your next port of call. Hop on the train from Agra and onward private transfer by car to the epic Suján Sher Bagh. Immerse yourselves in nature as this luxurious tented camp sits in the heart of the wild. Boasting a spacious natural setting and offering a plethora of activities to leap into, it’s the perfect haven for families looking to spread their wings and embrace the wildlife that oozes from its centre.

Delve into bewitching forest and uncover the extraordinary display of wildlife living here. We will arrange a number of morning and evening safaris during your stay, accompanied by a knowledgeable naturalist who will be on hand to help your family spot fresh tiger tracks, distinguish bird alarm calls and point out deer, peacocks and leopards to name a few! Following an adventurous day of safaris, burn off that excess energy with a splash in the pool, or unwind with a relaxing massage in the hotel’s spa before dining under the stars for delicious Indian cuisine.

Accommodation: Suján Sher Bagh ( 2 nights )
Day 6-9

Jaipur

The next leg of your exciting family exploration is a scenic two-hour drive through rural Rajasthan to the stunning city of Jaipur. The transfer is a memorable experience in itself. From colourful lorries beeping their horns and jam-packed buses overflowing with passengers, to camel trucks staggering through narrow lanes and tractor taxis meandering through small villages, this journey allows you to embrace spirited rural India at its purest. You’ll stay at the dazzling Oberoi Rajvillas, a luxurious and well-arranged hotel combining tented accommodation and luxurious villas set amongst extensive landscaped gardens, making it an idyllic base for families to comeback to after an active day exploring the city.

Your guide will hand-pick the must-see sites of the city and help you unveil Jaipur’s hidden pearls. Marvel at the impressive City Palace and meander through the maze-like streets of the historic Amber village to the celebrated Amber Fort. Pit stop for lunch in a local restaurant and try tastebud tingling local delicacies before continuing your tour through the countless artesian workshops that are peppered around Jaipur’s core.
