Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Guatemala is called the "Land of Eternal Spring" because the average annual temperature is 75 degrees Fahrenheit (a bit cooler, especially in the evenings around Lake Atitlan, 5,000ft elevation). For both Guatemala and Belize, while June through August see the most tourists, April, early May and November are best for gorgeous weather and smaller crowds. The rainy season lasts from May to October, typically beginning each day with clear skies and clouding up and rains beginning after mid-day. The Semana Santa (Easter week) proceedings in March or April and Christmas and New Year are very popular and bookings need to be made far in advance.

Fly to Guatemala City
-
Days 1-4: Antigua
Begin in Antigua, located in the shadow of Guatemala's Agua Volcano and one of the most enchanting colonial towns in the Americas. Take a leisurely stroll through its narrow cobbled streets to discover a rich architectural heritage of old convents, ruined churches, elegant plazas and beautifully restored houses.
Accommodation: Meson Panza Verde (3 nights)
-
Days 4-6: Lake Atitlan
Then continue by road to Lake Atitlan. Of all Guatemala’s natural attractions, Lake Atitlan is perhaps the most astonishingly beautiful. In its unforgettable highland setting fringed by majestic volcanoes, pine forests and colourful Mayan villages, life and customs have changed little over the centuries. The possibilities for adventure are endless and include boat trips to nearby Indian villages and textile markets, kayaking and volcano hikes.
Accommodation: Casa Palopo (2 nights)
-
Days 6-8: Tikal
Head back to Guatemala City and fly to Flores. Here, entombed in dense tropical jungle lie the awe-inspiring ruins of Tikal, possibly the greatest of all the ancient Mayan cities. Towering pyramids and temples soar above the forest canopy that teems with exotic wildlife. Spend two nights at the rustic-luxury hideaway, La Lancha, one of director Francis Ford Coppola's acclaimed properties.
Accommodation: La Lancha (2 nights)
-
Days 8-11: Placencia, Belize
Fly to Belize City and continue your jungle adventure into Belize for some beachside relaxation on the Caribbean, staying at the lovely Turtle Inn, which offers superb opportunities for snorkelling, diving and fishing, or pampering at the spa.
Accommodation: Turtle Inn (3 nights)
-
Days 11-13: Coastal Lowlands, Belize
For your final two nights, head over by boat to the resort's private island, Coral Caye, where you can spend some time in total barefoot bliss. An attentive team of staff will look after your every need as you are left to unwind. This is the perfect place to finish your honeymoon on a romantic high.
Accommodation: Coral Caye (2 nights)
