Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The best time to travel to Guatemala & Belize is between December and May, which is technically the drier season (although this can be a little unpredictable). The weather is tropical and the coastal areas are often hot and humid, with the forest highlands and Mayan mountains being a little cooler. June to August are often busy with foreign travellers so we recommend travelling outside these times.
We design each itinerary around you, so this suggested itinerary is a starting point that we can tweak or transform into something completely bespoke to you. Call us on 020 3993 9308 to start planning your holiday.

Days 1-3: Antigua
Begin your journey in the colonial city of Antigua, one of the most beautiful in Guatemala, and spend a couple of days wandering through its cobbled streets, sampling delicious local food, visiting independent boutiques and admiring its jaw-dropping valley setting and volcanic backdrop. Stay at a stylish boutique hotel with a central location and plenty of colonial charm.
Accommodation: San Rafael Hotel (2 nights)
-
Days 3-6: Lake Atitlan
From Antigua, drive to Lake Atitlan where we recommend spending three nights at Casa Palopo, a beautiful hotel which looks out over breathtaking landscapes of towering volcanoes and the shimmering surface of the lake. The lake is surrounded by small villages which each have a unique personality and showcase a range of colourful handicrafts and textiles. Explore some of the villages to discover the fascinating character and the friendly locals, trying your hand at weaving at a woman's cooperative nearby and sampling chocolates which have been produced in this region. Enjoy a sunset boat ride across the lake, soaking it all in whilst sipping a glass of champagne.
Accommodation: Casa Palopo (3 nights)
-
Days 6-8: Tikal
Next, head deep into the jungles of Peten, where the Mayan ruins of Tikal await, dramatically rising up out of the forest canopy. The area is rich with history and tropical wildlife, from monkeys to toucans and other rare animal species. Stay for two nights at La Lancha which boasts a lovely lakeside setting, using it as a base to explore the Tikal site, as well as the nearby ruins of Yaxha which are quieter and best enjoyed at sunset.
Accommodation: La Lancha (2 nights)
-
Days 8-11: Drive to Mountain Pine Ridge
Crossing the border into Belize, the jungle will give way to glorious pine forest as you reach the Mountain Pine Ridge, where adventures abound. Blancaneaux Lodge is the perfect base, offering an array of exciting excursions, beautiful grounds and gorgeous rustic-chic accommodation. Explore the region on horseback, discover hidden waterfalls and cool natural pools, experience impressive cave systems and more Mayan ruins, as well as going in search of jaguars and other wildlife species before being rewarded with refreshing sundowners.
Accommodation: Blancaneaux Lodge (3 nights)
-
Days 11-15: Ambergris Caye & Private Islands
You will then soar over the Maya Mountains as you are transferred by helicopter to Belize City, taking in breathtaking views of the forests and 1,000 Foot Falls as you go. Connect with a 20-min light aircraft flight to San Pedro where you will be transferred by boat to Cayo Espanto, a heavenly island in the Caribbean which offers just 7 luxurious cabanas, each with a team of staff to look after your every need. Powdery sand meets turquoise ocean, which can be explored by kayak, paddleboard or boat. For more adventures, head out to nearby coral reefs for a spot of diving or snorkelling, or sail to nearby secluded islands where you can enjoy a specially prepared beach dinner in total privacy. A bed can even be set out under the stars on your private terrace for you to truly make the most of this romantic setting. Spend four nights here in total luxury before returning to the mainland and connecting with your flight home.
