Ushguli, accessible by 4WD from Mestia, is one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe at 2,200m above sea level. It is famous for the defensive watch towers which dated to medieval times as well as being surrounded by peaks over 5,000 metres in the Causcasus. Walk through the villages and appreciate with the rural life of UNESCO-listed Upper Svaneti region and visit St Mary's Church, a Georgian Orthodox Church in the area.
