Mestia
Dominated by a landscape of towering mountains carved by deep gorges and medieval forts, Mestia is the capital of Svaneti and one of Georgia's best-kept secrets, still unblemished by the tourist crowd.
Located 1,500 metres above sea level, it's no surprise that Svaneti and the area around Mestia boasts some of Georgia's most dramatic sights. Take a four-wheel drive to Ushguli village, renowned as one of Europe's highest and longest continuously-inhabited settlements. Its enchanting UNESCO-listed medieval monuments and fortified towers are one-of-a-kind. For active guests, hike through the scenic valley of Mestiachala River to the Chalaadi Glacier. At an altitude of 2,100 metres, the views are truly astounding.
