Average time to visit

Provence enjoys a pleasant, Mediterranean climate. On average, Provence gets 300 days of sunshine each year, with warm but mild temperatures. Summer is high season here, with August bringing the hottest weather and the biggest crowds. Spring is a great time of year, the weather is warm, with temperatures swaying between 16 and 20°C, and the crowds are small. If you want to see lavender fields then it would be best to visit the region in June. In October the weather starts to cool. Autumn is also the start of the wettest weeks of the year. October sees an average of 3.7 inches of rain, with an average of three inches following in November. Still, it never gets all that chilly and snow is rare. Hotel Crillon Le Brave is closed in January and February.

Description

Hotel Montmirail is an elegant 17th-century building, nestled among vines and olive trees at the foot of Dentelles peak overlooking Vacqueyras. An ideal location to explore the surrounding hills, the hotel is in a peaceful, remote setting.

Hotel Montmirail is perfectly located for exploring the local area with many museums, castles, medieval villages and cathedrals close by. This region is particularly well known for its robust red wines and there are a number of vineyards close by, where you can sample local wines and learn about the process of growing the grapes and cultivating the wine.

The hotel façade is elegantly decorated with colourful shutters and the 38 rooms overlook either the surrounding hills, the garden or the pool and feature either a bath or a shower. The pretty garden features an outdoor pool with sun loungers and there is also plenty of seating for dining outside, where you can relax in the shade of the trees. The restaurant serves up elegant dishes with local flavours and the menu du jour changes according to seasonality. Depending on the season, you can dine in the rustic dining room or on the spacious terrace.

Just 10 minutes drive from the hotel, Gigondas is a beautiful village with 700 inhabitants, located in Upper Vaucluse at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. In Roman times the village was called "Jocunditas", translating as joy or rejoicing. The area is primarily a producer of red wine, and you will discover that white wine is no longer produced here.

Also close by is the town of Seguret, a pretty village located on a hill with a focal ruined chateau at it's summit. The village is full of historical buildings, some dating back to the 10th Century. This charming village attracts artists from around the world, some of whom have made this their permanent residence, making this a very pleasant place to visit.
