Tongariro Crossing (Private)
Tongarirro National Park, Central North Island, New Zealand
Often described as the best one day hike in New Zealand, the Tongariro Crossing provides an opportunity to experience some of the most scenic, volcanically active areas of New Zealand, to the saddle between the Tongariro and Ngauruhoe mountains.
The world famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing track is a fantastic one day guided adventure, taking you across spectacular and unique volcanic terrain. With cold mountain springs, old lava flows, active craters and thermal steam vents, not to mention the brilliant emerald and blue lakes - and beautiful native forest to finish.
The track runs up the Mangatepopo Valley, climbing to the Red Crater (1886m), then dropping down to the vivid Emerald Lakes. After passing the Blue lake, the track goes around the northern slope of Tongariro, descending in a zig zag to the Ketetahi Hut. After passing the Ketetahi Hut, the track steadily descends through tussock plains and into a native bush canopy following a stream to your final destination.
