Mulberry Mongoose workshop
Luangwa Valley, Zambia
Take a trip to the workshop of Mulberry Mongoose, a local company which employs local women to create fantastic hand-made jewelry and accessories, while giving back to the community and the environment.
Mulberry Mongoose crafts beautiful items of jewelry made from natural materials which are local to the South Luangwa Valley. The materials, wildlife and people of the region are the inspiration for the design of these gorgeous accessories. This is a fantastic opportunity to visit the workshop and learn how these pieces are made, and how the organization helps the conservation efforts in the area.
Visit in the downtime between safari activities, or on your way to the airstrip at the end of your stay, and watch as the women take materials such as snare wire collected by anti-poaching patrols and transform it into a unique piece of jewelry with the addition of semi-precious stones and hand carved beads. A portion of each sale is then donated back to the anti-poaching patrols, which goes on to aid the local wildlife, such as the elephants that frequently pass by the workshop!
This is a great chance to support local employment and conservation, and the pieces make for a special gift to take home to family or friends, or keep for yourself!
