Learn about the production of coffee in Guatemala, accompanied by a member of the De la Gente (DLG) charity who strive to promote environmentally responsible agriculture in Guatemala, helping to support smaller independent producers of coffee.
Coffee is one of the world’s most valuable commodities, and Guatemala produces hundreds of millions of pounds every year. Yet most coffee farmers remain poor and receive very little for the coffee they produce. Come and learn about how De la Gente works with smallholder coffee farmers and cooperatives to help them sell high-quality coffee directly to buyers and consumers, thereby improving the quality of life of their families and communities.
Led by small-holder coffee farmers, you will have the unique opportunity to experience a day in the life of a farmer, visiting the families that are supported by this organisation. Enjoy a short walk up Volcán Agua to enjoy views out over fields of coffee where you will greet one of the local farmers, having the opportunity to work side by side on the traditional machinery still used today. Have a go at roasting coffee over a fire and share a cup with the farmer and his family to reward yourself for the hard work. De la Gente coffee is 100% Arabica coffee, shade grown on the slopes of Guatemala's volcanoes and mountains and processed sustainably by hand in small batches.
