Explore the Old City of Leh with your private guide including Leh Palace & Shanti Stupa
Today as you are still acclimatising we recommend a leisurely start, leaving the morning free for you to enjoy breakfast and walk around the camp. Or, if you are an early riser, we also suggest setting out on an optional bird watching walk with the camp naturalist to spot and identify a large variety of birds from the Trans-Himalayan region.
After lunch you will proceed on a gentle orientation tour of Leh, located approximately an hour from your camp. In Leh you will visit the popular landmarks including the magnificent Leh Palace built by King Sengge Namgyal in the 17th century. From the palace you will continue by foot to the LAMO [Ladakh Arts & Media Organisation] Centre on a short walk passing some enchanting old houses. The centre is housed in one of the most important heritage houses, Munshi (Togoche) House situated at the foot of the Leh Palace. Following a tour of the house there will be a short presentation by a Ladakhi scholar on the architectural heritage of the old city. You can enjoy a view of the old city from the terrace of the Munshi House and sip special Ladakhi tea with light snacks. From Munshi House you will continue through the old city going through the bazaar and end your tour at the Shanti Stupa which has a great vantage point over Leh, with spectacular views of the stone strewn landscape - perfect at sunset!
