The Sulca family are prominent amongst the Peruvian weaving community and the skills and techniques they use to create their textiles have been passed on through the generations since pre-Inca times. Traditional dyeing methods are also used to create the vibrant coloured fabrics that we see today, using a mixture of naturally sourced plants and minerals. Learn about the techniques and admire some of their work in the gallery and museum before visiting the home of Nilda Callañaupa, an indigenous Quecha weaver from Chinchero (near Cuzco). Nilda will demonstrate her weaving using an array of authentic Peruvian tools. This experience offers a perfect introduction to the local culture and the skills which are required to produce such beautiful textiles.
