Average time to visit
The best time to visit Ethiopia is from mid to late October until May. During this time the highlands are ideal for hiking especially after the rainy season has just finished as the landscape bursts into life.
Due to the high altitude of the country in comparison to its location conditions get quite cool at night. Temperatures generally can reach above 30°C in lowland areas, whereas the highland temperature can dip below 20°C. Addis Ababa has a relatively even temperature year-round.

Located a mere 15-minute drive from Bahir Dar airport and on the shores of Lake Tana, the cottages of Kuriftu Resort and Spa make for an accessible yet peaceful retreat in Ethiopia. Indulge in the facilities at Kuriftu or explore the local area by boat.
The very relaxed atmosphere at Kuriftu Resort and Spa is perfect for couples and families alike. The best place in town, Kuriftu has been situated on the shores of Lake Tana since 2009 providing great value accommodation in this area of the Amhara Region. We would recommend a two night stay here, maybe three, depending on how relaxed you want to be.
Accommodation at Kuriftu is constructed of local stone and attractively designed with a minimalist approach resulting in spacious accommodation. We would recommend requesting an upstairs room from which you can enjoy views of the lake, these are situated around the pool area.
Climb the steps to your room and you will be met by a four-poster bed, lounge and en-suite. Each room has a large screen LCD TV, in-room bar and selection of well-appointed bathroom amenities.
There is extensive outdoor seating and a spa, so the options of where to relax are plentiful. For the chillier of nights, after a day of relaxing or venturing out to the many islands, monasteries and the Blue Nile Falls, sit by the log fire or indulge your senses at The Waterfront Restaurant.
Accommodation at Kuriftu Resort and Spa is by way of 28 stone cottages. Some are located at ground level, some are located at a first floor level. We would recommend requesting an upstairs room with a lake view and are located around the pool. There are 22 Lake View rooms and 4 Garden view cottages.
There are full board and half board packages, both of which include one foot and one Swedish massage per-room per night.
There are no childcare facilities at this property.

Kuriftu Lodge and spa is found on the shores of Lake Tana and has a very relaxing resort feel to it. It is popular with Ethiopians coming up from Addis for the weekend. The food was very good and the foot massage in the spa was out of this world!! I would recommend staying in one of the cottages round the pool as you are much closer to the lake and the upstairs rooms have views out over the lake. Kuriftu Lodge is the perfect place to explore the island monasteries of Lake Tana and also the Blue Nile Falls, I would also recommend spending an extra day here if you would like a day relaxing by the pool.
