Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

South Australia enjoys a temperate climate with warm summers, balmy and mild spring and autumn and cool winters. The main summer season is from December-February and the quietest time of the year is the Aussie winter June-August. The capital of South Australia, Adelaide plays host to many international sporting events as well as fashion weeks and international conferences, so it is always a good idea to book in advance and check to find out what is happening in the city when you are looking to book.

Itinerary

From the rolling wine lands and gourmet haven of the Barossa Valley, to the 'zoo without fences' that is Kangaroo Island and the vast expanses of rugged outback of the Flinders Ranges, enjoy this extraordinary journey through South Australia in style.

  1. Days 1-3: Adelaide

Begin your holiday in South Australia’s vibrant capital, Adelaide. Why not take a stroll in the cities beautiful Botanical Gardens or visit one of Australia’s largest markets- the Adelaide Central Market and taste your way around this multicultural city. For a different perspective we would suggest driving out to the scenic the Adelaide Hills where you will discover villages specialising in a huge array of food and “New World” wines– the prefect way to spend your first afternoon in Australia.

Accommodation: Mayfair Hotel Adelaide (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-5: Barossa Valley

Next, collet your hire car and continue to one of Australia’s premium wine- producing regions, The Barossa Valley. Home to over 150 wineries and over 80 cellar doors, The Barossa Valley has consistently produced some of the world’s favourite wine for over 150 years. With gastronomic delights around every corner, here you can tour the Barossa’s multiple vineyards and picturesque villages by bike, as part of a guided tour or even by helicopter.

    Accommodation: The Louise (2 nights)

  3. Days 5-9: Kangaroo Island

Next, return to Adelaide and catch a short flight across to Kangaroo Island, one of the best places in Australia to spot endemic wildlife.

For the next few days you will be at leisure in kangaroo Island. Why not visit Seal Bay Conservation Park, the only place in the world you can walk with endangered Australian Sea Lions. Alternatively visit Flinders Chase national park on the islands west coast.

A haven for wildlife and hiking here you can also see the famous Remarkable Rocks – a collection of enormous boulders carved into unusual shapes by millions of years of weathering.

Kangaroo Island as a relatively untouched destination also offers visitors some sensational food and wine. Sample local delicacies including Ligurian honey or visit one of the islands many craft breweries. We have included a full day tour of the island during your stay here, the perfect way to end your exploration of South Australia.

Accommodation: Southern Ocean Lodge (4 nights)
