CHOICE
Sujan Sher Bagh
  • Great sociable camp atmosphere

  • A tented camp so when at full capacity you might not be in total silence at night - the tents are very well spaced out but sound insulation is not perfect

  • The food here is a real highlight - we strongly recommend this property for those keen on discovering food

  • The camp is right along the borders of the national park and is therefore frequented by many species of birds, antelope and wild boar, even leopard and tigers have been spotted or heard near the camp - the camp is therefore perfect for those wanting to get close to nature

Situated a short drive from the main gates of Ranthambore National Park, Suján Sher Bagh’s 12 luxurious tents are set amidst the verdant grounds of a private estate. The camp has a strong eco-friendly ethos and a laid back, welcoming atmosphere. What we love about Sher Bagh is the overall atmosphere which evokes memories of the British Raj, of luxury mobile camps in the wilderness and kicking back with a good G&T at dusk! Expect campaign-style furniture made of teak and rosewood and a sociable feel where all guests get into the spirit. The camp is also a member of the prestigious Relais and Chateaux group of hotels and so the food here is superb.

The tents consist of a bedroom with attached veranda and bathroom and have 24 hour hot water and electricity. All tents have fans and state-of-the-art air-conditioning units to keep them cool during the warm months. There is also one Luxury Tented Suite with a private Jacuzzi and a Royal SUite with private pool.

Sher Bagh has a dining tent serving continental and Indian cuisine, a bar and you can also enjoy an alfresco Thaali dinner around the campfire were guests gather together in the evenings to chat with each other and compare notes on animal sightings. You can also take part in informal cooking/baking classes or delve into the organic garden to select fresh ingredients. Both destination dining and room service is also available.

Whilst at Sher Bagh it is also possible to indulge in an Ayurvedic massage in the comfort of your own tent or in the delightful Jungle Spa. We also adore the main pool, which looks out over the buffer area, meaning you could possible spot the odd deer as you practice your backstroke.

The setting of Sher Bagh is exceptional, there is a watering hole next to the camp area which attracts a myriad of bird and animal species at dawn and dusk and warning calls are often heard adding to the atmosphere of this very special camp.

From Sher Bagh it is possible to take game drives into the Ranthambore National Park which is home to tigers, leopards, striped hyenas, sambar deer, chital, jackals, sloth bears and Indian wild boar to name a few.

Top tip:

Ask Josef the camp manager to identify the warning calls of the wildlife as predators come into range. It’s a real education!
