Kinabatangan River

The Kinabatangan River has one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Borneo, and so this really is a must-do for any nature-lovers. There is plenty of wildlife around the lodges along the banks of the river, and the many boat trips on offer provide plenty of opportunities to spot the area’ s natural inhabitants, including pygmy elephants and proboscis monkeys.

Kinabatangan River

The Kinabatangan River is the second longest river in Malaysia, winding 560 kilometres from the mountains in southwest Sabah, flowing out into the Sulu Sea. The lower Kinabatangan River is a protected area, offering ox bow lakes and mangrove swamps. This area is one of only two places in the world to be inhabited by ten primate species, four of which are endemic. As well as proboscis monkeys, there are orangutans and a number of langur species. There is also over 200 bird species, as well as crocodiles, bearded pigs, four species of deer and the adorable pygmy elephant – to name but a few!
