Cala Luna is a beautiful boutique beach property located in the vibrant surf town of Tamarindo on Costa Rica's northern Pacific coast, and within walking distance of great nightlife, bars and restaurants. Suitable for couples or families.
Cala Luna Boutique Hotel, Villas & Spa, is a relaxed getaway surrounded by nature and set back from Langosta Beach on the outskirts of Tamarindo on the Nicoya Peninsula.
Accommodations range from one bedroom Deluxe Rooms that suit couples perfectly to Villas expansive enough to sleep up to six, which are great for families or friends travelling together. The Villas also come with their very own private plunge pools. Cala Luna's decor and layout is very contemporary in keeping with its jungle back-drop and the grounds are covered in mature tropical trees and plants, all of which surround the large free-form swimming pool at its centre.
Cala Luna is now Italian-run and the fabulous menu in the open-air Cala Moresca restaurant reflects this influence and the food is causing somewhat of a buzz in the region.
Cala Luna is steps from Langosta Beach a vantage point for dramatic sunsets, adjacent to Tamarindo Beach which is Central America’s Mecca for surfing. Offshore sport fishing (sailfish, marlin and other prized species) is highly recommended. Exceptional scuba dive sites dot the stretch of Pacific coastline and several PADI dive shops service the property. Easy-to-access daily activities are 18-hole golf, tennis, relaxing horseback riding and thrilling canopy tour at Cala Luna’s finca (farm), bird watching and nature trails.
Designed to ensure seclusion and feel like a small oasis, all their Villas feature a large private pool and are surrounded by lush vegetation and tropical flora. Each two or three bedroom Villa has a fully equipped kitchen, large living and dining area, terrace, and spacious bedrooms. The elegant organic décor promotes peace and tranquillity while the large spaces offer serenity and seclusion.
Are very welcome at Cala Luna and there are plenty of activities for children such as kayaking, mountain biking, canopy tours and surfing to name but a few, as well as villa style accommodations. Nanny services and babysitting are available at additional charge.
Restaurant Cala Moresco serves delicious food using local and organic ingredients to give you a taste of Costa Rica as well as some superb international dishes.
The white sands of Langosta beach are only a 2-minute walk away whilst the surfing paradise of Tamarindo is just a 10-minute walk. The resort's swimming pool is surrounded by luscious tropical gardens and has comfortable sun loungers. You can enjoy spa experiences in the privacy of your room or under the trees in the cool breeze on the beach. There are also yoga classes available.
Complimentary activities include use of the swimming pool, Jacuzzi, lush gardens with habitat for monkeys or exotic birds, and sunset hour cocktails on beach. Activities at an additional charge include off-site scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, catamaran sailing, spa treatments, surfing lessons and in-villa yoga classes.

I really enjoyed my short stay ta Cala Luna. It is located on a quiet road a bit outside of Tamarindo but it is still easy to get around as you can use the complimentary bikes. While the Tamarindo area is quite Americanised, I found Cala Luna was the perfect spot to go explore a bit of the city, try some of the delicious food options there but not being stuck in the downtown area that tends to get a bit too busy for my personal taste at night.

A really intimate way to experience Tamarindo, a little further away from the main chaos of the surftown's epicentre, this hotel offers all of the excitement of one of Costa Rica's most popular beach destinations, but with a real oasis feel, to make sure you can really enjoy the balance between relaxation and surf-beach fun. The rooms offer an interesting bohemian styling, all complete with bathtubs, and furnished mostly using recycled wood recovered from the ocean and the surrounding forest. Their main restaurant is a real Italian inspired delight - with touches of Costa Rican and Caribbean influences, using the local produce and ample fish available on the Pacific Coast to create some really special dishes. The Casetta restaurant offers live music every Friday and a Sparkling night, where all guests can enjoy complimentary bubbles whilst soaking up the care-free, fun-loving atmosphere this hotel represents. This vision is demonstrated in their extensive list of complimentary and reasonably priced activities on offer daily, as well as the flexible service when it comes to arranging this - they are really eager to make sure you are able to do the activity you had in mind, even if it sometimes doesnt work with their schedule. A great place to enjoy a more stylish stay in Tamarindo.

Cala Luna is the most luxurious hotel in Tamarindo, a laid back surf town in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. The hotel is made up of a number of free standing villas and independent suites dotted through lush gardens bordering a really lovely swimming pool and restaurant. The Suites are a good size with really impressive bathrooms and the villas even larger all with their own private pools, I really thought they looked perfect for families. The hotel has a young feel to it with music playing in the bar but a nice mix of families and American surf dudes around the pool and in the restaurant each night. I did walk down to the beach which is located across a rod behind the property and its lovely for a nice walk but not really for swimming. If you want the beach proper youll need to walk 5 minutes or so down the road to the towns main beach which is sandy and great for swimming and has a really nice local feel to it with families playing and all the surfers out in the water.
ATV Surf Trip to the North
Enjoy and exciting ATV excursion beginning in Tamarindo. From here, travel north along the coast until reaching beautiful Playa Grande. Take a refreshing dip in the ocean upon arrival before tackling some serious waves on your surfboard!
Catamaran Sail with Snorkelling
Silently glide in a catamaran along Costa Rica's Pacific Coast past exotic bays, golden beaches and tropical jungles, spotting dolphins, sea turtles and whales before dropping anchor in a quiet bay to go snorkelling or kayaking in the pristine warm waters.
Ostional Sea Turtle Excursion
If visiting between September and November, make sure to visit Ostional Beach where tens of thousands of sea turtles return each year to lay their eggs.
Visit the SIBU Sanctuary and Wildlife Refuge
Take a visit to Costa Rica's wonderful SIBU Wildlife Sanctuary and Refuge for injured and orphaned animals. Here you will find rehabilitated howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, coatis, racoons, opossums and porcupines, along with other small mammals.
