Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Colombia can be visited year-round but the cloudforest has two rainy seasons, which generally run from May to June and from September to November. The best time for this itinerary is between December and March. It is worth noting that it can rain at any time of year due to the tropical climate. December to January is also the best season for birdwatching as many migratory species return to the forest.
We design each itinerary around you, so this suggested itinerary is a starting point that we can tweak or transform into something completely bespoke to you. Call us on 020 3993 9308 to start planning your holiday.

Days 1-3: Bogota
Begin your trip in Colombia’s lively capital, Bogota, a cosmopolitan hub buzzing with trendy bars and restaurants. We’ve included a private tour that takes in the best of the city, including the old town of La Candelaria with its quaint, cobbled streets, the fabulous Gold Museum and a trip up the mountain Monserrate, affording panoramic views across this fascinating, sprawling city to the sierras beyond.
Accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogota (2 nights)
-
Days 3-5: Cartagena, Colombia
From here, return to the airport and fly to the colourful city of Cartagena on Colombia's coast, which boasts a distinctly Caribbean vibe, separating it entirely from Colombia's capital. Cartagena is a feast for the senses, so we’ve included a visit the Bazurto market accompanied by a professional chef. Head into the buzzing market and see a snapshot of local life before it’s onto the kitchen where you’ll learn how to prepare local dishes with an interactive cookery class and then savour the fruits of your labour over lunch!
Accommodation: Casa San Agustin (2 nights)
-
Days 5-8: Sierra Nevada and the Caribbean Coast
Next stop is the exclusive Casa Galavanta, a beautiful rustic yet luxurious home set way up in the Sierra Nevada mountains and immersed in between rainforest and acres of coffee plantations. With nature providing an amazing adventure playground, this is perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of the cities and making the most of the included activities, from trekking to yoga, in-house cooking classes to visits to local tribal villages. Arrive in style, setting off from Cartagena by helicopter and flying over the mysterious Lost City and the wave-bashed Tayrona National Park.
Accommodation: Casa Oropéndola (3 nights)
-
Days 8-11: Sierra Nevada and the Caribbean Coast
Opt for another helicopter ride, this time to Santa Marta, or alternatively take an exciting off-road transfer in comfortable 4x4s, with the option to stop at the Lost City, learning about the ancient Tayrona culture. Upon arrival to the coast, you’ll be transferred to your final stop on this incredible trip: the beautifully wild Tayrona National Park. Stay in a private villa nestled near the park’s entrance and spend your day exploring these palm-fringed beaches or slowing down the pace and staying poolside to soak up views across the Caribbean Sea. To get the best out of your stay, we’ve included hike into the national park with an expert guide who will explain the geography and culture of this diverse region followed by river tubing down the Don Diego River, a leisurely float that provides excellent bird-spotting opportunities.
