Good time to visit

Average time to visit

December to March is peak time to visit both Colombia and Ecuador, with agreeable weather all round. However the weather is rarely predictable and this itinerary can easily be enjoyed year-round. The Galapagos can be great off season if you wish to enjoy this National Park without all the crowds, and the wildlife can be seen all year (although please speak to your travel specialist if there is a particular species you are interested in catching!)

Itinerary

Be enchanted by Colombia's vibrant cities, each with its own distinctive flavour, before flying over to the Galapagos for a once-in-a-lifetime stay on this magical archipelago, spotting its unique and colourful wildlife in water & on land.

  1. Fly to Bogota

  2. Days 1-3: Bogota

Begin your trip in Colombia’s lively capital, Bogota, a cosmopolitan hub buzzing with trendy bars and restaurants. We’ve included a private tour that takes in the best of the city, including the old town of La Candelaria with its quaint, cobbled streets, the fabulous Gold Museum and a trip up the mountain Monserrate, affording panoramic views across this fascinating, sprawling city to the sierras beyond.

Accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogota (2 nights)

  3. Days 3-5: Medellin

Your next stop is incredible Medellin, “the city of eternal spring”. Infamous for years, it’s a city that’s worked hard to shed its controversial image and today it’s a cultural hot bed of creativity, social enterprise, art and design, music and food. Embark on a city tour and wander the streets of Medellin, through its many diverse districts from Botero Square to admire the sculptures of the city’s most famous artist, to Comuna 13, a district with a harrowing history that far from forgotten, the fiercely proud locals known as ‘paisas’ will tell narrate and weave into their tale of social transformation.

Accommodation: Patio del Mundo (2 nights)

  4. Days 5-8: Cartagena, Colombia

Board a flight over to beautiful Cartagena, with gorgeous cobbled streets lined with colourful houses and a UNESCO World Heritage city. Spend your days enjoying the very best of cultural attractions, from historic monuments, to fantastic restaurants and bars, or just be content wondering around the fairy tale streets and soaking in the beauty of one of the world's most picturesque cities. If you do want to venture away from the old town, make sure to take a boat ride out, either for an all-day snorkelling trip in the Rosario Islands or a sunset cruise along the harbour. Likewise, if you are looking for something extra special - splash out on a helicopter tour to the famous Lost City - Colombia's hidden Machu Picchu, and perhaps land near one of the country's incredible coffee plantations where you can enjoy a private tasting experience and learn a little about some of the highest quality coffee in the world. As for Cartagena, we’ve included a rum tasting experience to get your first night in this lively city off to the start it deserves!

Accommodation: Sofitel Santa Clara (3 nights)

  5. Days 8-9: Quito

Leave Colombia today and fly to neighbouring Ecuador, where you’ll venture into another colonial gem, Quito. Enjoy a night in this charming city, sampling one of its many great restaurants before you fly out to the Galapagos and swap culture for cormorants.

    Accommodation: Casa Gangotena (1 night)

  6. Days 9-13: Galapagos

Morning transfer and flight out to the Galapagos, where you’ll spend four nights and have the opportunity to enjoy some of most exciting activities available in this magical archipelago, including snorkelling, tours and lectures with naturalist guides, island sightseeing, kayaking, glass bottom boat expeditions and plenty more, all the while having the very best opportunity to see the Galapagos Big 15: look out for the blue-footed booby, flightless cormorant, Galapagos sea lion, giant tortoise and Galapagos marine iguana. Exploring Darwin’s playground is a true bucket list experience and will leave you with tales of up-close wildlife sightings, otherworldly volcanic scenery and marine encounters that will have your friends and family green with envy.

    Accommodation: Pikaia Lodge (4 nights)
