Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

From the subtropical lowlands in the south up to glacier-capped mountains in the north, Yunnan is a province of extremes. The climate varies so much across this vast and diverse area, that it has given rise to an ancient Chinese saying: “You can enjoy all four seasons on the same mountain, with each just a few miles from the next”. Generally speaking, most of Yunnan province is mild in winter and cool in summer, with large variances in temperature occurring across the day. Mornings can start with a wintery chill, and warm up to 25°C by lunchtime. Spring and Autumn are mild and pleasant and the best times to visit Yunnan, despite May being the rainiest month of the year. For snow-capped mountains and dramatic alpine scenes, the winter months of November to January can be spectacular.

  1. Days 1-3: Dongchuan

Arriving into Kunming, you will be greeted and transferred into Dongchuan for your overnight stay.

Rise early the next morning for an incredible sunrise at Da Ma Kan. Afterwards, we will continue to explore the surrounding scenic areas such as the River Snail Bay, Music Hollow and Seven Color Slope. Afterwards, we conclude the day at the Sunset Valley.

On your final morning, if you would like we can start early again for another sunrise at Jinxiu Garden. We continue into the Moon Land, the Jinji Hill (Golden Rooster Hill) and the Lingyi Temple before driving towards Luoping.

Seasonal Bonus: Dongchuan is good to visit at anytime of the year. Springtime has the added beauty of white hues from buckwheat and potato flowers. Around May-June and September, the field bursts into colours of golden wheats, highland barleys and green potatoes. November is also fantastic with the golden rapeseed.

  2. Days 3-4: Luoping

Luoping is a photographer's Mecca. We will spend a night here so that you can explore the otherworldly patterns of karst landscapes and seasonal rapeseed flowers which dominate the landscape of Luoping. We will visit the Luositian (Snail Fields), Jinjifeng (Golden Rooster Peak), as well as the ten-tiered Jiulong Waterfalls which ranks among one of China's most beautiful.

Seasonal Bonus: The flowering season between end of February to early May is a fantastic time when the rapeseed blooms across the karst landscapes. However, the scenic beauty of the area can still be appreciated at any other times of the year.
