Gems of Tongren

Have a full day to visit Tong Ren or “Re Gong” as known in Tibetan language, which also means “a place where ones’ dream come true”.
This morning, we follow the steps of the local devotees to turn the prayer wheels. Climb up Kalachakra Stupa to have a panoramic view of Guomar Monastery and village (also called as a castle). We proceed to the top pavilion to visit the statue of Kalachakra and the collections of surrounding sutras.
For lunch, enjoy a local handmade noodle before proceeding to visit Shuang Peng Xi Village in the afternoon. It is known to be the birth place of Gendun Chopel, a man of many hats including a painter, scholar, philosopher, activist and one of the most important Tibetan figures of the twentieth century. Stop by the Red Hat Sect Monastery where the monks wear normal clothing instead of the traditional red robes with long braid hair twine around their forehead. Look out for the big prayer wheel turned by ladies using the yak skin rope.
