Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Due to its length and topography, Chile’s north, central and southern regions have different climates: The north of Chile is a year round destination but its weather, particularly in the Atacama desert, is affected by the high altitude with temperatures fluctuating dramatically from day to night. Southern Patagonia is best visited from November to March when temperatures are milder but visitors should be prepared for strong winds and changeable weather at any time. It is worth considering travelling outside this time, especially rewarding in April (for autumn colours) or October (for spring flowers) because winds can drop significantly and there are fewer visitors in the national parks. The Central Valley enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate from Mid-October to April with cooler temperatures and higher rainfall from May to September. The wine harvest takes place in March.

Journeying the length of Chile from north to south, this itinerary showcases the most dramatic scenery that this remarkable country has to offer. A combination of private tours and outstanding properties make for a completely personalised trip and an unforgettable adventure.

  1. Fly to Santiago

  2. Days 1-4: San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

Upon arrival to Santiago, board a connecting flight up to the north of Chile for a desert adventure in the Atacama. A 2-hour flight from Santiago brings you to Calama, from where staff from the fantastic Awasi Atacama will be waiting to greet you and drive you to the oasis town of San Pedro, the perfect base for making forays into the extraordinary desert landscapes. Awasi is the only lodge in the area that offers all tours on a private basis as standard, meaning experiences can be especially tailored to you, away from the crowds. Explore the Valley of the Moon, geyser fields at El Tatio, watch flamingos congregate in the Altiplano lakes and enjoy some spectacular hiking, mountain biking and horse riding.

    Accommodation: Awasi Atacama (3 nights)

  3. Days 4-6: Santiago

After days exploring the Atacama, take a flight south back to Santiago, and spend a couple of nights in the buzzing Chilean capital, a city with a thriving culinary scene. We’ve included a private city walking tour with an expert guide, who will take you around Santiago’s diverse districts, telling you about its fascinating history and geography. In the evening, dine in one of its many great restaurants over a glass of fine Chilean red.

Accommodation: The Ritz-Carlton Santiago (2 nights)

  4. Days 6-8: Puerto Natales

From here, journey to the deep south of Chile, flying to Punta Arenas, the gateway to the Torres del Paine National Park with its breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. Spend two nights at The Singular Patagonia, a truly unique hotel brimming with history that will leave you with lasting memories of incredible views out to the fjord and truly excellent local cuisine. There are several tours to choose from during your stay here. As you’ll head into the national park next, we recommend that you take the opportunity to board The Singular’s private speedboat and head to the stunning Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers. You’ll see colonies of cormorants and sea lions and be able to enjoy spectacular views of the glaciers almost to yourself.

Accommodation: The Singular Patagonia (2 nights)

  5. Days 8-11: Torres del Paine

The next stop takes you to Awasi Patagonia. It’s the sister property to where you stayed in San Pedro de Atacama and so the excellent private guiding and personal service is the same but the feel of the lodge is very different. Awasi Patagonia is nestled just outside the national park, up high and affording incredible views to Torres del Paine, which we think is perhaps the most impressive national park in all of South America. Here, the continent falls away in a dazzling explosion of imposing glaciers, deep blue lakes, iridescent icebergs, waterfalls and spectacular jagged peaks. Awasi’s stand-alone cabins augment the sense of remoteness and allow you to feel you really have this incredible place to yourselves. Enjoy a whole host of exciting outdoor activities from trekking and horse riding to mountain biking and glacier visits.

    Accommodation: Awasi Patagonia (3 nights)

  6. Days 11-14: Central Valley

Fly back to Santiago and escape the city with a private transfer out to Millahue and three nights at the renowned Vina Vik, the perfect place to unwind before returning home. Superb wines to taste, exquisite cuisine and a horseback ride, walk or cycle through the vineyards make for a wonderful end to your journey.

    Accommodation: Vik Chile (3 nights)
