Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
This trip is best enjoyed between May and October as this is when the Rocky Mountaineer operates and the weather is warmer. Seattle is beautiful throughout the summer months and often averages in the mid-twenties or higher. When travelling through the Rockies, the lakes are frozen through winter and begin to thaw in June, so to guarantee the startling turquoise waters and a chance to enjoy canoeing, we recommend waiting until July.
We design each itinerary around you, so this suggested itinerary is a starting point that we can tweak or transform into something completely bespoke to you. Call us on 020 3993 8245 to start planning your holiday.

Days 1-4: Vancouver
This exciting take on a classic Canada itinerary starts with three nights in Vancouver before your expedition on The Rocky Mountaineer begins. Soak in the city sights at a leisurely pace, acquainting yourself with Vancouver’s thriving culinary scene on the Guilty Pleasures’ Gourmet Food Tour. The next day we recommend exploring the beautiful Stanley Park by bicycle for a pleasant way to burn off the previous day’s treats! Pedal at a relaxed pace along the picturesque waterfront and look out for the brightly coloured totem poles which can be found throughout the park.
Accommodation: Rosewood Hotel Georgia (3 nights)

Days 4-4: British Columbia
After a morning at leisure, you will be privately transferred to the station to board the legendary train, The Rocky Mountaineer, where your journey into the Canadian Rockies begins. You will be travelling in the GoldLeaf carriage, the most luxurious option from which large domed windows look out over the impressive scenery. Delicious hot meals are also served along the way so you can simply relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Today’s journey will wind through the lush green scenery of Fraser Valley, passing by the dramatic waters at Hell’s Gate and the Coast and Cascade Mountains in the distance. Eventually you will reach desert-like landscapes by the confluence of the North and South Thompson Rivers upon which Kamloops sits.

Days 5-5: British Columbia
The next day, begin the final leg of your Rocky Mountaineer journey to Jasper, travelling from the rolling hills of the Thompson River Valley to the snowy peaks of the Monashees, taking in jaw-dropping views of the Icefield Glaciers and the majestic peak of Mount Robson, the highest in the Canadian Rockies.

Days 5-7: Jasper
In Jasper, collect your rental car and make your way through the mountain scenery to the mountain town of Jasper. Jasper National Park is a hub for outdoor adventures and two nights here allows you time to explore the great outdoors. Hike spectacular trails through dramatic canyons, raft along fast-flowing rapids or soak in nearby hot springs and simply bask in the nature. Elk, deer and other wildlife can regularly be seen nearby too!
Accommodation: Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge (2 nights)
-
Days 7-10: Lake Louise
Get back behind the wheel and follow the impressive Icefields Parkway which runs alongside the spine of the Rockies and marvel as rows of mountains appear interspersed with glaciers and beautiful emerald lakes. Your destination is Moraine Lake Lodge, boasting a dramatic location on the shores of Moraine’s turquoise waters in the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Get off the beaten path to barely trodden glaciers and mountain trails with a private helicopter experience where you can admire the indescribable beauty of these untouched peaks and wander rugged paths in complete solitude.
After three nights here, embark on the final section of your road trip, heading for Calgary where you will connect with your international flight home. Along the way there are plenty more opportunities to stop amid more of Canada’s impressive National Parks for short nature walks before the mountains give way to the Great Central Plains and eventually you reach your final destination.
