Stockholm is a year round destination but is at its best in spring, summer and December. From May to September temperatures are warm, early twenties but in the height of summer can reach up to 30 degrees and the sun doesn't set until around 10:30pm, rising at around 3:00am so you can really pack a lot in! During the winter temperatures do get cold but it is a great place to go for a pre-Christmas getaway. A trip to Swedish Lapland between November and March will allow you to make the most of your chances of catching the Northern Lights. And of course there will be snow on the ground too making husky sledding, snow-shoeing and snowmobiling all possible.
From the elegant, trendy city of Stockholm to the beautiful Lappish wilderness, Sweden has a lot to offer. This itinerary takes you to both, and even includes a stay in a treehouse, making for a fantastic combination honeymoon. The culmination of this exciting itinerary is a stay in a unique, remote cabin where you’ll have a personal host to serve you on sumptuous meals and take you on thrilling excursions such as snowshoe walks, then, in the evening cosy up in your private hot tub.
Your Swedish honeymoon begins in Stockholm. The capital is packed with fabulous museums, regal palaces and gothic churches, which all contribute to the city's fascinating history. Spend your first couple of days discovering all that Stockholm has to offer, enjoying the beautiful scenery spread over 14 islands. Explore the colourful cobbled streets of the city's old town, Gamla Stan, which was founded over 700 years ago and make sure to stop at a charming café for some “fika”, a typical Swedish ritual of stopping for some coffee and something sweet.
Your next destination whisks you northwards to the depths of Swedish Lapland at a hotel with a truly one-of-a-kind concept, the Treehotel. A flight from Stockholm to Kiruna takes just over an hour and half and as you land you’ll be amazed by the new scenery. Comprised of seven unique treehouses, the Treehotel makes full use of its surroundings and seamlessly blends astonishing contemporary design with eco-friendly practice. Your two nights here will be unlike any hotel you've ever stayed in, no matter which treehouse you choose! This is the perfect place to get back to nature, surrounded by pine trees with incredible views of the Lule river.
If you do manage to tear yourself away from the tranquillity of your treehouse, there is a plethora of outdoor activities on offer for you to try. From hiking, mountain biking and sea kayaking in the summer to husky sledding and visits to the indigenous Sami people in the winter, there is something to suit everyone. For the ultimate Lappish experience, try a night-time snowmobiling excursion to try and catch a glimpse of the elusive Northern Lights!
