October to April is generally the best time to visit, but the southern autumn (April and May) is often characterized by extraordinary leaf colours, and prices are usually lower at this time. Winter days are cold but often still.
Experience Patagonia's dramatic landscapes staying at Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa, a chalet-style lodge set on the shores of the Beagle Channel near Ushuaia at the foot of the Andes, on the southernmost tip of Argentina.
Set on the outskirts of Ushuaia, Los Cauquenes has successfully integrated itself with the impressive natural surroundings. The hotel is typically Fuegian in style and is built of natural lenga wood and stone with picture windows overlooking the Beagle Channel and the snow capped peaks of the Andes.
There are 54 spacious and tastefully designed en-suite guest rooms and suites. The relaxing living areas have a warm and cosy atmosphere and are great for unwinding after a busy day exploring the area. Sit by the fire and enjoy an exquisite afternoon tea whilst taking in the views or head to the restaurant to sample delicious cuisine featuring the chef's innovative dishes which cleverly blend some of the best local flavors.
There is also an excellent spa and fitness centre, with an extensive treatment menu, Jacuzzi and indoor/outdoor pool with fantastic views.
Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa has 54 guest rooms, five of them Suites, most with views of the Beagle Channel or the Andes Mountain Range. The rooms are tastefully decorated with wood furnishings and subtle tones. The Junior Suites have a separate living room and balcony and the Senior Suites have a separate living room, hydro-massage tub and private deck.
Children are welcome at Los Cauquenes. Babysitting, children’s activities and games are all available at the hotel. Some interconnecting rooms are available for families.
Facilities at Los Cauquenes include a restaurant, bar, wine cellar with over 100 Argentinean wines, indoor/outdoor pool, spa and fitness centre with sauna and Jacuzzi.
Various activities and excursions can be organized from Los Cauquenes including walking, boat trips and visits to Tierra del Fuego National Park. Regular shuttle transfers also run between the hotel and the centre of Ushuaia, with its many small shops and restaurants. Guests at the hotel can also indulge in a variety of relaxing treatments at the hotel spa.
Ushuaia's newest luxury hotel has an outstanding location, perched right on the Beagle Channel and meters from the beach. The red-roofed, beechwood, and stone-walled main building looks like a mountain lodge. The lobby has massive windows, comfortable, oversize wool and leather furniture, and a giant fireplace. For a hotel with only 54 rooms, there are a lot of amenities here, including the area's top spa and an acclaimed restaurant. Opt for one of the superior rooms, which are large and have bright windows overlooking the channel - standards often have little or no views. Suites have wooden terraces. All have modern bathrooms with marble and stainless steel fixtures, lush robes and towels, and flatscreen TVs. The staff tries hard to exceed your expectations. There are 10 daily transfers into town, although after a busy day exploring the area, you won't want to go anywhere. Six cabins work well for families on extended stays.
