October to April is the best time to visit. Early summer (November) can be lovely, and in late summer and autumn (March) the colours are stunning. But if you’re planning to go riding in the open steppes, midsummer is wonderful. Avoid the peak summer months of January and February, since the trails in the park are particularly crowded at this time. At any time of year, Torres del Paine has its own microclimate: unpredictable. People will often tell you to expect all seasons in a single day.

Given the hotel's privileged location, a wealth of activities are available including horse riding and hiking excursions into the Torres del Paine National Park. This used to be an original working cattle estancia, sitting at the trail head to the Torres. But due to recent expansion, it's now a full-blown hotel, with the traffic to match. The complex includes a low-slung, ranch-style hotel, a two-story hotel wing next door, a large campground, and a hostel. In the afternoon, horses and the odd cow graze just outside your hotel room door, making this a fun place for kids. This is an ideal lodge for horseback-riding enthusiasts due to their on-site stables, and its access to the Towers is convenient; however, it is a long drive to the other side of the park, and rooms have no views. Las Torres also has a small spa, with mud therapy and massage treatments, as well as a sauna. The buffet-style restaurant is above par, but pricey at $35 (£23) per person for dinner.
