Two hot new beach properties in Costa Rica
20 January 2020
Costa Rica is the jewel in Central America’s crown thanks in no small part to an abundance of natural wonders. Here, you’ll encounter wild beaches flanked by lush jungles, giant sea turtles hurling themselves onto remote shores and dolphin pods paying in the waves. Latin America Expert, Michele, got to experience this paradise for herself recently and wasn’t just struck by the country’s beauty but also the incredible hotels on offer. If you’re looking to hit the beach on your next vacation, this one’s for you. Here’s her top three hottest, new beach properties in Costa Rica.
AGUAS CLARAS
Ethos:
Tranquility, relaxation, and finding beauty in both nature and art
What to Expect:
While staying in one of their suites or bungalows, you’ll to be surrounded by a fusion of classic Victorian architecture and modern, colorful interior design, lush green jungle paths, and an overall chilled out vibe. The short walking path to beach opens up to a rugged, secluded beach. A short distance from the beautiful Cahuita National Park and downtown Puerto Viejo, you will find a great balance of jungle, beach, and nightlife.
Favorite Part:
My favorite part about Aguas Claras was the spacious wraparound porch on my casita. I experienced the true Caribbean weather with one day of beautiful sunshine and blue skies and another of heavy tropical downpour. During the downpour, I just relaxed on my porch, drank some tea, and listened to the calming jungle sounds of nature. I felt so fortunate to be able to sit essentially outside and enjoy these surrounds while staying dry. I instantly felt so at home and so relaxed at Aguas Claras – I can’t wait to go back someday!
How Many Nights:
3 nights is the perfect amount of time to have a chill day by the pool and/or beach, enjoy the cute downtown area, and a day of snorkeling or exploring the national park.
Best For:
Couples, honeymooners, groups of friends (no children under 12)
GILDED IGUANA
Ethos:
Sun, surf, wellness, and killer sunsets.
What to Expect:
The Gilded Iguana feels like an upscale surf camp for any age and any level of surfing. Whether you’ve never been on a board in your life or you’re basically a pro, the Gilded Iguana truly has something for everyone. Claiming to be one of the best spots in the world to learn how to surf due to the steady sets, The Gilded Iguana has a surf club, juice bar, on site restaurant, and amazing pool. The adventure sports aren’t just limited the water – they also specialize in mountain biking. Even if you have zero interest in surfing or mountain biking, the beach which is roughly a 3-minute walk from the hotel and the pool at the hotel is a great way to unwind.
Favorite Part:
The beach, the live music, and the amazing surf lesson I received.
How Many Nights:
3 nights at the beginning or end of your if you want to see other parts of Costa Rica.
Best For:
Couples, families with young children or teenagers, groups of friends – great for all!
