Botswana’s winter is May to October when the weather is hot during the day (not stiflingly hot) and cold at night. Botswana's summer months (November to April) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March.
There are two very distinct seasons at the Victoria Falls, the wet/flood season and the dry season. These seasons do not reflect the quantity of rain, rather reflect the volume of flow of the Zambezi River. From around March through to July the river surges in size as the rainfall in Angola and Zambia from months before swells the current. The falls are at their most dramatic at this time of year with huge columns of spray. The nights are cold and the days warm at this time of year. From around September to January the water levels drop, the falls are more accessible and views are clearer as the flow can drop in volume by 90%. It is worth noting that the rains come from late October through to February, this combined with high heat, 40 Celsius or more, in October and November, causes high levels of humidity.

Days 1-3: Shinde Concession
Start your exciting holiday as you take a light aircraft flight over the Okavango Delta from Maun. Enjoy some incredible scenery as you glide over the lush green waterways of the Delta. Your first two nights will be spent in the northern reaches of the Delta which you will find teeming with birdlife and animals. Spend your days here out on early morning game drives and afternoon activities such as bush walks, fishing and even night drives. With a myriad of waterways, this area is also a great place to explore by boat and mokoro where you could find hippos and see animals from a completely different viewpoint.
Accommodation: Shinde (2 nights)
-
Days 3-5: Nxabega Concession
Today your Botswana adventure continues as you take a light aircraft back over the Delta to stay for two nights on a private concession which is rich in wildlife. The Delta habitat offers the perfect place to experience the diversity of species, from plant and bush to lion and elephant. Annual floods transform the area into a beautiful water-filled paradise making it another excellent place to explore by boat and mokoro. Day and night game drives and bush walks are also available, but we think you should spend one of your nights here on an exclusive sleep out under the stars.
Accommodation: Kanana Camp (2 nights)
-
Days 5-7: Victoria Falls - the Zambia side
Your last two nights on this essential itinerary will be spent in Zambia at Victoria Falls. A light aircraft will take you up to Kasane Airport in Botswana where you will be met and transferred over the border into Zambia and onto your river front accommodation. We recommend a river front stay away from town as it offers more privacy and some beautiful views. During your stay here, you could visit the mighty Victoria Falls, head out on a sunset boat cruise, try your hand at some fishing. Alternatively, head into town for some dare-devil experiences like a bungee jump and gorge swing, or even white-water rafting on the Zambezi.
Accommodation: Waterberry Zambezi Lodge (2 nights)

Mokoro trips in Botswana
Botswana's northern safari areas are full of water channels just waiting to be explored. Larger boats can be used to explore the wider channels but for the aficionado, mokoro trips into the smaller channels are a real treat. Always subject to waterlevels
