Here at Scott Dunn we’re always on the lookout for the latest hotel openings, recently launched flight routes and most exciting new experiences on the block. Nowhere tempts our travel taste buds quite like India, it continues to push the boundaries of experiential travel, raise the bar for luxury and take us further off the beaten track than we ever thought possible. With the new year fast approaching, and a flurry of new hotels on the cusp of opening their doors, there has never been a better time to travel to Indian shores.
We’re constantly keeping our ear to the ground for the latest news in all things travel and this season India has really captured our attention. We’re on tenterhooks for the grand reveal of the new and improved Oberoi New Delhi, opening its doors in January 2018 and set to be the most luxurious hotel in the city. Further afield, Calcutta has got the travel gurus talking. Two additions to our portfolio, the Rajbari Bawali and the Glenburn Penthouse, are a nod to Calcutta’s exciting future as the cultural capital of the northeast whilst the recently opened Oberoi Sukhvilas has put Chandigarh firmly on the map as the gateway to the Himalayas. The latest addition to the Taj Hotel family, the Taj Swarna, affords an unrivalled location next to Amritsar’s Golden Temple whilst at Evolve Back Hampi you can get off the beaten track without compromising on luxury. Finally, the newly opened, ultra trendy Wayanad Wild in Kerala confirms the sleepy backwaters as one of our favorite destinations in India.
Hot off the press
Luxury camps are set to take the world by storm in 2018. This year we saw them popping up, tent pegs and all, across the Middle East, Africa and the Americas and now, India is following suit. With Kaafila Camps, you can access some of the most untouched corners of India and discover the best kept secrets of its heartland. Meanwhile, in Ladakh, the Ultimate Traveling Camp has pitched up during the summer months, giving you a front row seat to the magic and mystique of the Himalayas.
Our hot pick: The Andaman Islands
Remote? Yes. Inaccessible? Absolutely not. The allure of the Andamans is arguably the chance to get unequivocally off the grid, yet without the hassle of voyaging to the other end of the earth. With regular domestic flights now departing from Chennai, Calcutta, Delhi and Mumbai, weaving the Andamans into an India itinerary is easier to do than ever before. Think crystal clear waters, jungle clad islands and endless white sandy beaches for the ultimate island escape.
The Taj Exotica Resort and Spa Andaman Islands is set on the idyllic island of Havelock, hailed the pearl of the Andaman for more reasons than one. With just 75 spacious villas to its name, spread over acres of land, you can guarantee complete privacy in serious luxury. Complete with the renowned service of the Taj group, this brand new opening is set to be one of the hottest properties of 2018.
Jalakara is a boutique hotel also set on the postcard perfect Havelock Island, combining modern luxury yet maintaining an authentic appreciation of its enviable setting. Ease into island life with an early morning yoga class before unwinding in the spa or lazing by the pool for endless days at a deliciously slow pace of life. With just six suites to its name, this is the perfect place to relax with a loved one.
