Ana, one of our Mauritius Consultants, gives her top tips on how to make the most of your holiday to Mauritius.
Mauritius is a complete feast for your senses. This vibrant island country has a true international mixture of nationalities. Most Mauritians are multi-lingual, speaking Mauritian Creole, French and English in addition to Indian and Chinese where many of their descendants originate, so you will hear varying accents on your visit!
This colourful island is incredibly scenic with gorgeous soft white sand beaches, azure blue seas and stunningly green mountainous regions – you will see a rainbow of colours everywhere that you look and I have never seen such a vast array of different Hibiscus flowers as in Mauritius! It really is a beautiful island so do take the time to take a trip out and about to explore some of the island, you won’t be disappointed.
The land is very fertile supplying the island with a wonderful selection of the freshest and tastiest fruits and vegetables. The waters surrounding the island are full of a diverse selection of fish and locally caught Marlin is very popular and you will find this on most menus. I have been lucky enough to eat in many of the wonderful resorts that we feature and can say hand on heart that I have not been to another destination where the quality of produce is so consistently high being locally sourced, allowing the skilled chefs to produce the tastiest and most stunning dishes, a feast for the eyes and not just your taste buds! Do try the smoked Marlin and Palm Heart salad which is a very popular dish on the island and most restaurants will have their own special version – it is also very healthy!
You will see many sugar cane fields on your journey and a trip to the Chamaral Rum factory is well worth a visit to see how the canes are turned into the delicious local rum and with a tasting experience at the end of the tour, who needs an excuse! Most of the resorts have their own locally infused rums too and definitely worth a try!
A great way to completely unwind on holiday is to take a massage soon after arriving. It is the perfect way to revive your body from the long haul flight and to relax yourself as soon as possible ensuring you rid yourself of any jetlag. All of the hotels that we work with offer massage services and many have the most amazing spas attached with incredible indulgent experiences. Ask us to pre-book some appointments for you prior to your arrival as this will ensure your preferred times are available – you can always amend them when you arrive with enough notice.
Whatever you do in Mauritius it is certain to leave you feeling touched and with lots of fabulous and colourful memories.
