James, one of our Mediterranean Travel Co-ordinators, recommends Verdura Resort in Sicily for its outstanding service, delicious food and huge array of activities…
Driving through the gates of Verdura, the landscape of the resort immediately grabs your attention. The contrast of the immaculate green golf courses and the rows of olive trees with the back drop of the calm blue sea make for stunning views.
We arrive too early to check in so we were advised to try the restaurant in the golf club house. This was a delightful start on our journey through Sicilian food. We ordered a selection of pizzas to share, a fantastic way to experience the various combinations of flavor in a social way. At this point I need to mention that all the food at Verdura was outstanding! A true representation of local food and for that alone I would return.
The rooms and service were fantastic, made memorable with the countless small touches. I am a big fan of reading on vacation and often leave my book thrown on any surface on the page I was currently reading. On the first night after the turn down service I found my book neatly closed with a book mark placed on the page I was reading. Although this seems such a small thing, it made an impact to me that they would care enough to do that. Throughout our time at Verdura, the staffing was phenomenal. Taking time to talk to us and advise us on various hidden treasures the local town (Sciacca) has to offer. You get the feeling that the members of staff are one big family that, for the time you are there, take you under their wing.
We booked into a cooking class and on arrival were handed a glass of champagne and shown to our places at the table. One of the first things we noticed as we glanced at the raw ingredients we were using to cook with, was the quality and freshness. Already my mouth was watering thinking about the food we were to prepare. Our chef introduced himself and started describing the various ingredients and dishes we were going to use and cook. It became apparent that he was very passionate and knowledgeable, he engaged us with conversation and invited us to get involved at all stages of the cooking process. Not only did I learn a great deal about Sicilian cooking, the whole process from start to finish was great fun. I would recommend trying a lesson whilst in Verdura.
There are a variety of different activities to do when visiting this stunning resort. Having limited time ourselves we missed out on a few gems. With such an immaculate golf course – it seemed a shame to miss this experience.
I would recommend this resort, not only for its comforts and food but for the true feeling of relaxation you experience. From start to finish all of your needs are met.
