After a recent trip to Cape Town, Rose from our Africa team, gives her top tips on where to eat.
Cape Town has long been a destination for world-class cuisine. With the Rand currently offering incredible value, this is the time to visit Africa’s cosmopolitan capital. From fine-dining to street food, Cape Town has it all, pair this with the finest South African wines and you’re onto a winner.
The place of the moment is The Old Biscuit Mill which is home to three of Cape Town’s coolest restaurants. The Test Kitchen was recently voted one of the top 40 restaurants in the world and Chef Luke Dale-Roberts has created an adventurous menu that never fails to impress.
Luke Dale-Roberts’s other restaurant; The Pot Luck Club is set on the sixth floor of the Biscuit Mill with 360 degree views over the city. The plate sharing concept menu encourages diners to try a little bit of everything; we definitely made the most of it…
Burratta is a more traditional Italian style restaurant with arguably some of the best pizzas in Cape Town and a fried brussel sprout salad with blood oranges which completely swayed my views of brussel sprouts!
If you are after a more classic fine-dining option, then Constantia is the place to go. Home to the famous Greenhouse restaurant at The Cellars Hohenort, award-winning chef Peter Templehoff has created a unique tasting menu which playfully incorporates international techniques with local ingredients and flavors.
If you are looking for views which are equally as good as the food then Harbour House in Kalk Bay is the perfect match. We will be sure to request a table at the front of the restaurant for views across the bay.
Watch the fishing boats make their way into the harbor with their fresh catch. Famous for its seafood, the seafood platter is heaven on a plate with everything from calamari to line fish to mussels and more.
Rumbillion at The Roundhouse is the place to go for a relaxed dinner in the summer-time. With incredible views of Table Mountain and over the Atlantic, watch the sunset with a glass of wine before tucking into fresh oven-baked pizzas and triple-cooked chips!
Currently one of Cape Town’s hottest restaurants and a firm favorite with Capetonians, is Societi Bistro; with its seasonally inspired menu and exceptional service. The authentic menu changes with the seasons and only the finest ingredients are used, making simple dishes such as braised lamb shank and mushroom risotto exceptional.
Be sure to leave room for pudding, their chocolate nemesis is famous in Cape Town and not to be missed!
