Fran, one of our Americas Travel Co-ordinators, went on a culinary tour of Napa Valley back in September. In this blog, she writes about her cycling tour through some of the area’s best wineries.
Napa Valley has earned its stripes as California‘s most luxury wine region and rightfully so. With rolling hills, dotted with small towns and beautiful wineries this region is well worth a visit. What better way to explore the beautiful Napa valley than by bike? Pedal through the sun dappled vineyards and stunning scenery with your very own personal guide. Visiting in September is a fantastic time as you will be right in the midst of harvest, known as crush season, although booking in advance is recommended as this time is very busy until the end of October.
On a perfect sunny day with blue skies we made our way to Napa Valley Bike Tours located in Yountville and were greeted by our enthusiastic guide. With over 18 guides working here you will never be short of a knowledgeable, passionate expert to lead your tour. We put our helmets on (Safety first!) and set off. The Classic Napa Valley Bike tour is the most popular tour running from 9:30am until 4pm and has a maximum of 12 people, but you can always request a private tour if you would prefer.
Over the day we enjoyed cycling through the picturesque scenery, and visited three wineries with a sumptuous tour and tasting at each. There is a focus on boutique and family run wineries and there is a range of over 20 wineries to choose from. The tours are also very flexible so if there any wineries that you would particularly like to see just let your tour guide know before your visit.
To help wash down all that wine a delicious picnic lunch at one of the stops is also included for you and all laid out by your private guide. After all that cycling, lunch feels well deserved and really is a meal with a view overlooking the peaceful vineyards.
If all that exercise has worked up an appetite after your tour you are in the right place! As well as fabulous wines do not forget the mouth-watering dining this region has to offer. Napa boasts an indulgent food culture and you won’t have to travel far to find Michelin starred restaurants and fantastic tasting menus and wine pairings. French Laundry and Bouchon are just two of the decadent restaurants to treat your taste buds located in the charming but stylish town of Yountville. Napa Valley really is a must see for visitors to California, wine, scenery, cuisine and fantastic weather, it has it all and I can assure you that you won’t leave disappointed. Maybe just a few pounds heavier…..
