Christmas in Val d’Isère

Merry Christmas from Val d’Isère. It’s been a week of festive fun in resort, here’s what’s been going on:

Snow Sculptures

The specialist snow sculptors have been hard at work transforming mounds of snow into masterpieces that decorate the main streets of Val d’Isère. Transformed throughout the week, it is hard to deny that they are works of art.

Torchlight descent

ESF know how to put on a show. The ski instructors from Ecole du Ski Francais made their way down the iconic Olympic piste Le Face in the pitch black, making a snaking chain of torchlights down the piste. This amazing photo by the Val d’Isère tourist board truly does the spectacle justice.

Here’s a short video, captured from the bottom of the piste.

Father Christmas comes to town

Father Christmas came to visit the lucky children of Val d’Isère this week. He spent Christmas Eve skiing on the Solaise and took in submissions for the children’s drawing competition.

Later, he appeared in the town centre to the sight of a huge crowd, who were treated with not only the sight of seeing Father Christmas, but free Hot Chocolate and Vin Chaud. Children were given the chance to join Father Christmas on the stage in the middle of town to hand in their Christmas wish lists and pose for photographs.

It’s been a lovely festive period in Val d’Isère, with New Year less than a week away, there’s set to be a whole host more festivities on the way.
