Europe Travel Consultant, Cordelia, received a lovely email this week from one of her guests who recently returned from an adventure in Norway. We wanted to share this little journal with you…
We had such a good week in Norway, here is a little flavor of our trip. Thank you for your help in organising it for us.
Arrived Alesund airport and picked up an Avis car – very efficient!
Drove to Hotel Brosundet and received a warm welcome. A lovely room with views of the inner harbor. Had a wander around the town and returned to a delicious meal at Maki.
After breakfast we walked up to a viewpoint (Fjellstua 400+ stairs!) with a stunning view over the town before heading off on a very exciting RIB ride out to the island of Runde – incredible birdlife and a very bumpy trip home!
Off to Oye on empty roads with a view around every corner. Across Storfjord on a car ferry and a wonderful drive through tunnels, around cliffs and down valleys to the quirky Hotel Union Oye. Another great welcome and after a quick lunch in the garden off to a hill walk with breath-taking views back down Norangsfjorden towards the hotel.
Interesting hotel – feels like the Adams family might be in the next room. Another great meal with all local ingredients and a wine flight!
On the advice of the hotel drove for 15 minutes to the start of an amazing hike up a deserted valley to a lake surrounded by the last snow of the year. Sue had to have a dip! We walked all day and didn’t see one other person.
Another amazing drive on empty roads to Hellesylt to board the Geiranger fjord local ferry which is not to be missed. The Seven Sisters waterfall must be seen on the way to Geiranger. A strenuous walk up to a viewpoint where we met a few friends!
We arrived at Storfjord Hotel later in the afternoon. A charming hotel with stunning views over the Fjord. Our room was delightful and we had another tasty meal overlooking the fjord.
A hike to the top of Sandvikshornet as recommended by the hotel. Stunning views! A delicious evening meal of local fish was well deserved.
We woke up to weather not quite as good as the sun of the previous six days. However another hike suggested by the hotel took us to the top of Frostadtinden. It is without question, the most beautiful scenery we have ever encountered.
A quick walk after breakfast to the top of the hill behind the hotel through pine woods took us to another viewpoint. A short drive to the airport ended a memorable week.
All three hotels were very good but completely different.
Thank you once again
