Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The best and most popular times to visit Kyoto are the climatically stable seasons of spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November). The highlight of spring is the cherry-blossom season, which usually arrives in Kyoto in early April. Bear in mind, though, that the blossoms are notoriously fickle, blooming any time from late March to mid-April. Autumn is an equally good time to travel, with pleasant temperatures and soothing autumn colours, which usually peak between late October and mid-November. Be warned that Kyoto is crowded with domestic and international tourists during the cherry-blossom and autumn-foliage seasons.

Of course, you can visit Kyoto at any time of year, although the summer, from June to August, can be very hot and humid, and winter can be a little chilly for some people’s taste.

Insider's View

Ask us to arrange in advance for the hotel staff to meet you at the station, an extra hand (and a Japanese speaker) will be helpful!

The hotel has the biggest choice of dining I have ever heard of - 13 restaurants within the hotel and over 100 within easy walking distance.

With so many dining options available ranging from authentic Japanese cuisine to French fine dining, the hotel is an extremely convenient base during peak seasons where good quality restaurants are mostly fully booked.

If you are staying at the Granvia, try and book their Choraku Suite. It is one of a kind so often not available but if you can book it, it is definitely worth it. It is on the 15th (top) floor with the most incredible panoramic views of Kyoto with Kyoto Tower in the foreground and the mountains in the distance. Designed by a famous Kyoto interior designer, the suite is huge and comes with its own balcony and jacuzzi - it is perfect for a romantic honeymoon.

Maybe not your most exclusive, or design conscious hotel but the best thing about the Granvia is definitely it's location. Right next to the central train station and within easy walking distance of bars, restaurants and shopping. The rooms are not anything special here, although the heated loo seat is worth a giggle! What I enjoyed most about staying here was that there was some atmosphere with a vast Asian market creating a slightly more authentic experience.
