The Northern Territory’s Top End has a very distinct wet season between December and March, and although this can be spectacular in terms of wildlife the build up to the rains can be uncomfortably humid.

Bamurru Plains closes from November through January due to access issues and humidity.

This itinerary delves under the skin of Australia focusing on the Aboriginal heritage and lesser visited parts of this ancient landscape. Explore areas few set foot in and spend time with local Aboriginals learning about ancient beliefs and traditions as well as what its like to be a modern-day Aboriginal.

  1. Days 1-3: Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia

Begin your authentic exploration of Australia in the Northern Territories Top End in the state’s capital Darwin. A waterfront city devastated by both Hurricane Tracy and WW2, the Darwin of today is a bustling multicultural harbour city offering a variety of attractions from historical and maritime museums to the sunset markets at Mindil Beach. Spend time at leisure in Darwin – opt for a cruise along the waterfront or take a day tour into neighbouring Litchfield National Park to witness the giant termite mounds that populate the park.

    Accommodation: Sky City (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-6: Kakadu National Park

Continuing south you will visit one of the Top End's most culturally important national parks, Kakadu. The largest national park in Australia spreading over 20,000 acres and encompassing much of the Top End and home to Aboriginal people for over 60,000 years, Kakadu National Park is a haven for those interested in history and culture. For those interested in history head to the ancient rock art sites of Nourlangie and Ubirr where the red-ochre rock showcases ancient stories.

If wildlife is a preference options include exploring the Mary River wetlands by airboat or enjoying an adrenalin pumping crocodile cruise. For an exclusive Aboriginal experience travel into the permit-only Arnhem Land where traditional Aboriginal life reigns supreme. Limited to only 400 non-Aboriginal visitors a day, it is in Arnhem Land where you will receive the ultimate Aboriginal welcome and introduction.

    Accommodation: Bamurru Plains (3 nights)

  3. Days 6-8: Uluru

Heading south to the heart of Australia, the Red Centre is your next destination. Home to the monolithic rock known as Uluru spending time  here in the heart of the Australian desert is inspiring beyond belief.

Enjoy an Aboriginal guided tour around the base of Uluru or opt to see this dramatic rock form above on a scenic helicopter flight. With no light pollution in this remote part of Australia dfuring your time at Uluru you will notice the sensational stars and night sky glistening above you.

We have included an iconic sound of silence dinner here where you will enjoy an al-fresco traditional Australian outback dining experience whilst being serenaded by sounds of the didgeridoo – a memory that will stay with you long after you leave Australia’s outback.

    Accommodation: Longitude 131 (2 nights)

  4. Days 8-11: Queensland, Australia

From the red centre travel to Australia’s renowned East Coast and transfer into Queensland’s hinterland region. Overlooking a spectacular freshwater lake, Crystalbrook Lodge is located on an active cattle station spanning over 85,000 acres - the ultimate bush adventure. Learn about the ancient Aboriginal and new modern-day techniques employed to run an outback station before discovering the station on foot or by bike along the many bush and cycling tracks. Why not learn to fish and spend your days out on Crystalbrook  Lake or opt for a relaxing boat cruise. For the ultimate indulgence enjoy an unforgettable scenic flight soaring high above the endless landscape or simply relax in the lodge's luxurious surrounding sipping local Australian wine admiring the glistening southern night sky as the sun sets over the limitless landscape above.
