Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The typical Mediterranean climate of Provence and the Cote d'Azur has long drawn visitors here. Late Spring brings warm temperatures that can reach nearly 30C by July. Sunshine is abundant, with nearly 12 hours a day in mid-summer. The mistral wind can bring a cooler wind in early Spring, but this part of the Riviera is more protected. July is the driest month, and rain showers tend to be infrequent.

A beautiful villa, full of character, La Bastide des Virettes has views across Provence to the Mediterranean. With quiet gardens fringed by palms, olive and citrus trees and a pool cut into the rock face, it's a truly relaxing haven. Sleeps 8.

Nestling in the hills on the edge of the medieval village of Tourrettes-sur-Loup, La Bastide des Virettes has spectacular views to the coast. Located in a quiet residential area, in established gardens and terraces, it's an ideal Riviera retreat. The bastide has been recently renovated and fitted with every modern convenience. Much loving care and attention to detail has been used, with the villa being uniquely decorated in a beautiful baroque style. Frescos and painted woodwork feature throughout, along with antiques and artwork collected from across the south of France.

Bastide des Virettes is fully south facing with the gardens stretching out in front. All the living areas of the house are on the ground floor, with a large and comfortable open plan living and dining room, children's TV and playroom, and a double kitchen. From the house, french doors open out onto a good sized covered dining area, with views towards the sea.

Upstairs are four sumptuous bedrooms and three bathrooms. Beautifully decorated and furnished, and individual in style, they are each named after a colour. The master bedroom has two sets of French doors out on to a balcony with views to the swimming pool and across to the Mediterranean. A good size dressing room is ideal for a cot. Its large, classic designed en suite marble bathroom, includes a bath and a separate shower. The "Blue Room" is another double, with an en suite shower room. Lovely painted features characterise this room, with two sets of French doors opening onto a small balcony. The "Green Room" is arranged as a twin, with views across the garden and the surrounding village, countryside and coast. This room shares a bath with an overhead shower, with the "Turquoise Room", which is at the back of the house and set up as a twin. These rooms also share a separate WC.

To one end of the garden and landscaped within the rock, is a stunning 15 metre free form pool with waterfall and Jacuzzi. There is a shallow beach style entrance to the pool, making it perfect for younger children to paddle in, whilst the middle part reaches 2m in depth. There's also a boules court for a gentle afternoon game or two. There are covered terraces at either side of the pool – one for soft seating and the other outside the house for dining al fresco.

The locals call Tourrettes-sur-Loup the "village of violets", for its cultivation of this little flower. It's a picturesque and historic village, off the beaten track and full of cafés, boutiques and patisseries along its winding cobbled streets and arched passages. It's an easy place to spend a morning, watching a game of boules in the Place de la Liberation, or visiting the market on a Wednesday - the local speciality is tarte à l'orange, which is really worth a try. The beaches of Cagnes are only 8km away, and the glamour of Cannes and Antibes, just 14km. St Paul de Vence is also close, and perfect for those wanting to explore its galleries and boutiques. The hills around Tourrettes are truly beautiful, and offer magnificent walking and cycling country.

Bastide des Virettes is a spacious villa with airy and good sized rooms (total 350m2). There is Wi-Fi and an Apple TV. It has been lovingly restored and beautifully furnished with handpicked antique Baroque style painted wooden furniture and artefacts. All four unique and individually furnished bedrooms are on the first floor. All bedrooms with the exception of the master bedroom have been named after the predominant colour of the room. Each has twin/double 'link style' beds, however the rooms will automatically set up as 2 double rooms and 2 twin rooms unless otherwise advised.

All the living areas are on the ground floor and include a double reception room, separated by a double sided fireplace. One side is more formal and the other is home to the children's play area/TV room. There is a separate WC on each floor. No air-conditioning.

Master bedroom

The master bedroom is the largest bedroom with two sets of French doors out on to a balcony complete with table and chairs overlooking the gardens and swimming pool and with sea views to the distance. This room has two 4ft beds. It has a large en suite marble bathroom, classical in style including a bath, separate shower and a good sized dressing room beyond. The dressing area would be fine for a cot.

Double bedroom

This double bedroom is known as the blue room. It is on the opposite corner of the house to the master bedroom and is flooded with light from the two sets of French doors, one with a small balcony. The palette of pale blues and creams, makes this room feel particularly calm and relaxing. The blues follow through to the en suite marble bathroom.

Twin/double room 1

This room is known as the 'Green room' and has French doors with Juliet balcony to enjoy the views across garden and surrounding houses/countryside and sea to the distance. The Green room shares a bathroom with the Turquoise room.

Twin/double room 2

This room is known as the 'Turquoise room'. It is the only bedroom located at the back of house so only has views across the garden and driveway. The turquoise room is the smallest of all the bedrooms and shares a bathroom (bath with shower over) and WC adjacent with the green room.

Rees Family - July 2018 (Guest)

Chad and Nadine have been wonderful and have made our stay very special. Nothing has been too much trouble and
they have anticipated all of our needs brilliantly. The Villa is beautiful and very comfortable. The food has been delicious and of a very high standard. The only slight negatives would be internet speed and the pool was slightly too cold which didnt matter on very hot days but on cooler days it would have been nicer if the pool was warmer.

Our chef and villa manager have both been fantastic. We felt very well looked after without them being overly intrusive which is a hard balance to strike. Nadine was very helpful with local knowledge and made helpful suggestions about places for us to visit if we had mentioned we were going somewhere. Chads cooking was exceptional.

McGuire Family - June 2018 (Guest)

Fantastic team, we couldnt of asked for more. Nadine was great, friendly, diligent and always happy to help with any request. Chad is an excellent chef, made us some excellent meals and very friendly and helpful too!  Helen our nanny was fantastic and our two girls absolutely loved her and didnt want her to leave.....ever apparently!

The Villa is stunning, the pool with jacuzzi was just fantastic for the girls and the staff faultless. All in all another amazing holiday!

Lagnetoft Family - June 2018 (Guest)

Fantastic villa with a stunning view. Very comfortable way of spending a vacation and a great concept.  Staff were great but I think they lack some training if we compare with the service we got last year. Just small details and no big deal for us but area for improvement for you.

Brennan Family - June 2018 (Guest)

This is our third time at Virettes so we know it well and we know the drill! Everything was great, there are always a couple of hiccups but we spoke with the team and Heather and no issues there.  Food was delicious. Nadine our host was great, but lacked the experience and knowledge of people who had already done a season, but her confidence grew a lot during our stay.

Hannah (Nana Hannah as she is now known) was the best nanny yet and that is quite a high bar. Lovely girl, great fun with the kids, had lots up her sleeves for all weathers, amazing temperament, just great all round. Only problem was that the girls wanted to spend more time with her than with us!

We had a 10th anniversary dinner, the whole team, especially the chefs, pulled out all the stops. I sent a copy of the menu to Heather and Kate (in bookings) as it was one of the nicest dinners we have ever had. Not only that, but the lengths they went to to make it look so nice, lay the table, flowers etc. Beyond the call of duty and SD at its very, very best. Could not have been better.

Nestled in the hills, Bastide Des Virettes is a beautiful retreat that immerses you into a real sense of relaxing in the countryside far from the hustle and bustle of the city. From the stunning views across Provence to the Mediterranean, antiques and painted woodwork throughout the property and an amazing pool landscaped within the rock, the villa offers so much character throughout. The outside space is such a wonderful area to enjoy with the impressive pool with waterfall and jacuzzi, the lawn running the side of the property to the boules court. Should you wish to venture out of the Villa you are also just a 15 mins walk to the hilltop village of Tourettes-sur-Loup. Bastide Des Virettes is a wonderful choice for all the family!

Alice Peal (Staff)

The epitome of Provence in style, Bastide des Virettes fully immerses you in the character and atmosphere of its beautiful surroundings. Each bedroom is uniquely decorated whilst the downstairs is very neutral and classic throughout. The outside space offers as much, if not more, of a WOW factor with an incredible pool with paddling shelf for the little ones, hot tub, lawn, table tennis and boules pitch, it is perfect whether you wish to relax or be a little active. The setting offers beautiful views of the surrounding area and villas as well as the coast in the distance.

Debbie Rainsford (Staff)

From the moment you step into Bastide des Virettes, its hard not to be impressed by the amount of love and attention to detail that is woven into every room. Provencal antiquities and furnishings abound and its easy to see why guests pick this lovely villa for their family holiday. Close to Tourettes-sur-Loup, with its delightful market and shops, its easy to while a few hours watching the locals playing Patanque/Boules from one of the traditional cafes located just off the square. Its an idyllic French villa experience with the added benefit of being on the doorstep of one the regions most beautiful perched villages.

Hannah Fullagar (Staff)

Never before have I seen a villa packed full with so much character! In true Provencal style, a vintage shabby-chic theme runs throughout the villa; from the furniture to the artwork, every little detail makes this villa what it is. Having said that, with the outside space this villa has to offer, Im not sure that youd have much time to appreciate the dcor inside! Theres some great running around space on the lawn for the children, a generous sized pool complete with Jacuzzi, and even a boules pitch overlooking the villa and the town of Tourrettes-sur-loup in the distance. Bastide des Virettes really does have something to keep every age group happy, ideal for the perfect family break.

Dominic Atterton (Staff)

A picture postcard of Provencal style, Bastide des Virettes is an extremely pretty house and ideal for a large family or group of friends. The house has been carefully and thoughtfully styled by its Scandinavian owners and has a really fantastic ambiance. The large living room leads on to a beautiful kitchen and upstairs the airy bedrooms lead out on to balconies with charming shutters in place to keep out the summer sun.

The real star feature of this villa is its wonderful garden and pool area. Crafted from natural stone and surrounded by flowers the large pool is a stunner. If the sun gets too much then there are plenty of shaded areas to retreat into and enjoy some lunch.

Lucy Hunt (Staff)

Bastide des Virettes has a traditional Provencal interior and is bursting with character and charm. The interior is designed by its Danish owners and is full of authenticity and eccentricity.

The large playroom full or indoor activities combined with the huge pool and surrounding area makes it an absolute heaven for children, whilst the hot tub and outdoor dining area also appeal to adults.

Katherine Gotla (Staff)

This amazing property has been lovingly cared for by its owners and beautifully decorated in a traditional and tasteful style. Artwork and antiques have been collected from across the South of France and frescos and painted woodwork feature throughout. Three of the four bedrooms have sea views over the French Riviera and the gardens are well established, fringed with palm trees.

You can sit back and relax while the chef and host tend to your every need and the highly qualified nanny takes care of your little ones leaving you satisfied in the knowledge they are in very safe hands.

If you can tear yourself away from this haven then the local area - with traditional villages such as St Paul de Vence as well as the bright lights of Nice and Cannes - has a lot to offer.

Mike Harlow (Staff)

Bastide des Virettes is a unique property that has the prefect blend of character, charm and luxury. The Villa is styled on a traditional Provence summer villa. Beautiful stone walls, tiled roof, wooden beams, hand painted shutters and doors all add to the understated charm of this property.

The outdoor space is fantastic with ample grass areas a boules pitch and a lagoon pool. Perfect for both children and adults who enjoy spending their days outside making the most of the sun and a competitive game or two of boules.

Terraced gardens and antique stone on the outside. French country house shabby-chich on the inside and far-reaching views clear to the Mediterranean everywhere you look. The fittingly appointed interiors, rife with distressed wooden accents and exposed beams are the old fashhioned foil to a luxurious 15-metre pool cut into a rock face. Adults will enjoy relaxing in the jacuzzi while kids paddle in the shallow, beach style end and both can emjoy the patter of the waterfall. A boules court provides further diversion, but with the charming village of Tourettes-sur-Loup just around the corner, the beach only 8km away and Canne a short drive to the south, guests might have trouble finding time to fit in a game.

Sarah Beecham (Staff)

This villa is perfect for those individuals that enjoy and admire unique and quirky designs and dcor. Right from the first time you set foot into this villa you can tell that the owner has poured her heart and soul into it and has created a real family home.

The outdoor seating area is perfect for making the most of the sunny weather and enables you to enjoying dining outside as a family.

The pool is perfect for children and due to the shallow beach area at one end, little ones will enjoy spending hours splashing around. There's also a hot tub around the pool so ensure you take advantage of this facility, in fact why not enjoy a drink in the hot tub during the evening as the sun goes down?
