A journey around Antarctica on board Silversea's elegant Silver Cloud is bound to be unforgettable. This is the most luxurious vessel to cruise the Antarctic Peninsula and offers a perfect introduction to expedition cruising for those who prefer not to sacrifice a few home comforts. The cruise is all-inclusive, including gratuities, room service, selected premium spirits and wines and gourmet dining, meaning you don't have to worry about a thing whilst on board.
The ship itself is extremely spacious and offers all-suite accommodation. All of the suites boast large picture windows so guests can always be sure to enjoy the best views whether in their cabin, in the restaurants or in the observation lounge. Le Champagne is the only Relais & Chateaux restaurant at sea and features delicious fine dining dishes, while there are also more casual dining options on board too. For those who need some time at leisure, there are plenty of options on board, with facilities including a pool, Jacuzzi, fitness centre, beauty salon and spa.
Spot whales, gentoo penguins and elephant seals as you explore these ice cold waters on a series of Zodiac excursions, accompanied by highly specialised guides to ensure you get the most out of your experience. You will have opportunities to head on shore to get up close to some of the wildlife and there will also be optional educational lectures on board in the evenings to give a more in-depth insight into the geography and biology of the region.
When to visit
“The Silversea Cloud is a fantastic ship for those looking to discover Antarctica whilst enjoying a high level of (on board?) comfort, with beautifully appointed and spacious suites (of which 80% have a private veranda), fine dining restaurants and individual butler service for all guests.”
Exploring the Lemaire Channel
Boasting some of the most spectacular mountain scenery and icebergs, the Lemaire Channel is a truly beautiful part of the Antarctic Peninsula to explore, both on your ship and on Zodiac excursions.
Spectacular South Georgia
Longer Antarctic expeditions include time exploring South Georgia, arguably the highlight of your cruise. With breathtaking scenery, huge congregations of king and macaroni penguins and amazing birdlife, there is so much to discover here.
The Drake Passage
The stretch of sea between the southern tip of South America and Antarctica is the Drake Passage, an often turbulent stretch of sea that marks the beginning and end of your journey south. Take in the midnight sunset and watch albatrosses fly alongside you.
Visiting Port Lockroy
Port Lockroy is a British-built research station situated on Goudier Island and restored into a museum about the early explorers in 1996. A fascinating place to explore, and plenty of gentoo penguins outside to entertain you, too.
Whales & Seals
Whilst most visitors find the penguins the primary draw in terms of Antarctic wildlife, the marine life includes numerous species of seal and whale. Species include humpback whales, orcas, elephant and leopard seals, and Antarctic fur seals.
One of the real highlights of an Antarctic cruise is getting out on the water in small Zodiac vessels, the ideal way to get up close to the icebergs, wildlife and marine life.
