Israel

Steeped in ancient history dating back millennia, the Holy Land of Israel is evocative, fascinating and spectacularly beautiful. From cosmopolitan Tel Aviv and the tranquil Sea of Galilee, to the hallowed sights of Jerusalem, Nazareth and Bethlehem, it is a land of contrasts, where modern-day Israel meets Biblical history, on the shores of the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

A melting pot of history, religion and culture, Israel has long nurtured the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths against a backdrop of arrestingly beautiful and wonderfully diverse landscapes. Tel Aviv’s golden beaches, eclectic architecture and hedonistic nightlife make this vibrant city a fantastic introduction to the modern Israeli way of life. With a lively café culture, a plethora of trendy beach clubs dotted along the dazzling coastline and a selection of high-end boutiques, restaurants and bars, Tel Aviv is a hip, laid back metropolis. In stark contrast, heading north from Tel Aviv, discover the ancient secrets of Jerusalem. This hallowed city is home to Jesus Christ’s original resting place, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the infamous Western (or Wailing) Wall and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and is a melting pot of religions, history and cultures that date back many millennia. Deep in the Judean Desert, the Dead Sea’s cobalt waters have long been hailed for their healing properties. Bask in their mineral-rich waters, visit Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden for thousands of years and discover the ruins of Masada, once home to a palace built by Herod the Great. Also steeped in history are the cities of Nazareth, Bethlehem and Jericho in the Palestinian West Bank, sites of huge spiritual importance to Christians and Jews the world over and easily visited in a day trip as you journey through the Holy Land. Evoking tales of miracles and the site of some of Jesus’s most important sermons is the Sea of Galilee, Israel’s largest freshwater lake. Discover the Biblical village of Capernaum, the historic Mount of the Beatitudes and the fishing village of Bethsaida, located on the northern shore, before heading for the rolling hills, orchards and vineyards of the Golan plateau, famous for their award-winning wines.
