Castello di Reschio, Italy
Couples can now dream of staying in the Tower Suite at newly-opened Castello di Reschio in Italy, a timeless retreat set in the heart of pristine Umbrian countryside, as this ancient castle and estate is added to the Scott Dunn portfolio. A real show-stopper, the Tower Suite is spread across the five floors of the Castello’s tower, and at the very top opens out into a roof garden with an open-air tub from which to drink in the views.
Pine Cliffs Resort, Portugal
Early booking will be key for families looking to travel over peak school holiday weeks, due to capacity constraints across Scott Dunn’s Explorers kids clubs. New for 2021, Scott Dunn will introduce its CREW programme to Pine Cliffs Resort in Portugal for older children over the age of 11 and independent teens. Within a flexible six-day programme, activities include tennis at Annabel Croft Tennis Academy, golf at Pine Cliffs Golf Academy, high ropes, surfing, boat trip with SUPs and kayaks all under the supervision of a Crew Leader or qualified sports staff.
Eagles Palace, Greece
Over on the Aegean coast, children aged 5 to 13 can enjoy the Scott Dunn Aqua Explorers programme at Eagles Palace, Greece during May half term and from 5 July to 28 August 2021. Guests can choose from a 6-day or, new for 2021, 3-day watersports programme that will see younger guests paddle boarding, windsurfing, sailing and snorkelling led by fully qualified instructors.
Those willing to travel outside of the traditional safari months, instead going between November and March, will reap the benefits – safari activities in Botswana (November to March) are rarely disrupted by the weather and the bush is full of life. During the green season, there is ample opportunity for phenomenal wildlife sightings and fewer travellers. Established game drive routes become the preferred choice for wildlife on the move – as such it is not uncommon to experience great sightings right on the track by the vehicle.
South Africa is a country of enough contrasts and diversity to satisfy a continent – home to arid deserts, wild swamps and vast savannah, and some of the most rewarding game viewing in Africa. Those seeking a more meaningful experience can take part in hands-on wildlife management and ecological conservation at Marataba Conservation Camps, located within a privately managed section of Marakele National Park and soon to be added to Scott Dunn’s portfolio.
Long regarded as the world’s ultimate land’s end, Patagonia is an explosion of lakes, glaciers and soaring mountains. The opening of Explora El Chalten brings luxurious accommodation to this far-flung corner of the country, within reach of the iconic peak of Mt. Fitz Roy.
Vietnam is a great option for families looking to reunite. With the recently-opened Bai San Ho on the East Coast of Vietnam as a brilliant choice for families after secluded beaches, Scott Dunn has just the property or itinerary for each family, whether travelling with little ones, teens or as a larger multi-generational group.
The natural landscape of Scandinavia is undoubtedly one of the best that Europe has to offer – for both summer and winter adventures. In Sweden, Stockholm’s own archipelago comprises around 300,000 islands where days can be filled with sailing, diving and exploring islands that are protected nature reserves. For a novel base amongst the islands and waterways, Island Lodge is an exclusive tented camp that overlooks the archipelago from an idyllic private island location.
