Safari has always been top of my wish list and from the first time I caught sight of a giraffe in the Selous Game Reserve I was hooked! I've been lucky enough to have lived in Tanzania and taken full advantage of all the country has to offer, as well as traveling further afield to Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and South Africa.

Tanzania is my favorite place on earth and its variety of landscape and wildlife never ceases to amaze me. Swimming with whalesharks around Mafia Island, trekking chimpanzees in the Mahale Mountains and tiger-fishing in the Selous are just a few of my highlights... but I could name dozens more!

Travel nuggets

  • Get up at first light to make the most of your morning game drive and give yourself the best chance of seeing some big cat action. Ask your Camp Manager to provide packed breakfasts and remember to take a jumper as it can be chilly first thing!

  • Don't be afraid to go off the beaten track for a real "bush" experience! Some of the lesser visited parks and reserves have really fantastic wildlife and you often get it all to yourself.

  • Make a note every night of where you've been and what you've seen that day. It sounds a bit geeky but it's easy to forget when there's so much going on and it really is great to be able to look back over it and reminisce.

My hot picks

Ras Kutani, Kutani, South Coast, Tanzania

One of the most relaxing places I've ever been! Barefoot, rustic luxury at its best.

Sayari Camp, Serengeti, Tanzania

Northern Serengeti is a must-see and Sayari is the ultimate luxury lodge.

Selous Impala Camp, Selous and southern Tanzania, Tanzania

The underground hide is fantastic! Absolutely amazing to get so close to the elephants without disturbing them and some great ohoto opportunities too.
